Anthropologie's Literal Interpretations for the Bath

Fun or just fussy? These modern bath mats/towels depict images of vintage bath accessories, but...

...for these prices we'd rather stock up on some real vintage items and the plainest, softest towels we can find.

Thoughts on this look?

1. Photo Finish Bathmat ("trompe l'oeil faucet and bathtub printed atop thick white canvas"), $95
2. Vanity Top Towel, Mirror (printed with an oversize vintage mirror), $38
3. Vanity Top Towel, Bottle (showing a vintage tonic bottle), $38
4. Vanity Top Towel, Brush (picturing a vintage hairbrush), $38

All available at Anthropologie.

I love these! I'm a sucker for tromp d'oeil work, and these are so clever. Would look great in my bathroom- I love the tonic bottle.
I do agree that they're overpriced though. I mean, come on.

$100 for a printed canvas bathmat? For that price, I'd expect it to massage my feet and give me a pedicure while I'm standing on it.

Trompe d'oeil can be whimsical and clever, but these strike me as conceptually odd. I mean, I'm standing on my bathmat, drying myself off, but I'm also standing on a faucet? That's not clever to me. I'd prefer more of a juxtaposition, like with these photo furnishings by Teo Jasmin:

A sofa with a photographic print of SF buildings on its back -- that's a juxtaposition.

I enjoy trompe l'oeil, but why are we tricking our eyes into thinking that towels are brushes and mirrors?

I don't get it.

Did my comment get deleted? I thought I offered a fair criticism of these linens.

This is almost as bad as hanging a sign in the bathroom that says "Bath." I'll take white Egyptian cotton, please!
