Escapes: Les Maisons de Bouteilles

Escaping a distance outside of Montreal, we just heard about the Bottle Houses at Prince Edward Island. And we thought we'd seen glass bottles reused before...

The Bottle Houses were started in 1980 and include the six-gabled house, tavern, and a chapel. What a way to reuse a very large quantity of glass bottles - and it makes for quite a beautiful quality of light on the interiors.

More AT bottle reuse suggestions (albeit on a smaller scale):

I take it they don't have hurricanes or earthquakes there, because that would be a messy death.

But cool (if you don't).

Just to qualify, PEI would be about 500 miles/800 KM's from Montreal, give or take (just in case people think they can make a day trip).

Fascinating, in a gimmicky sort of way. Would look nice on a bypassed loop of Rte 66 next to the 'worlds largest ball of twine'.

I might be traveling there next summer--must put them on the list. That's a lot of bottles.
