The Dutchtub reminds us of something out of an old fairytale or modern animation, we can't quite decide which. It's like a giant teacup, bowl, or planter, making anyone soaking inside look wonderfully and extremely out of proportion.
Each polyester tub is handmade and has a stainless steel heating system that is easily regulated in an adjustable basket. The tub was invented in 2002 by Floris Schoonderbeek to inspire people to live and enjoy public outdoor space. All you need for the tub is water and wood!
The website claims that the Dutchtub is comfortable enough for four people, but we think it seems just right to stretch out solo. Available in six standard colors, we love the Tub Orange and Ocean Green.
Dutchtub has "experience centers" throughout Europe: on the highest roof terrace in Amsterdam, different spots (with the Alps as a backdrop) in Switzerland, and in Sweden.
Selling for 4,450 euro (approx. $5,622), though, such a soaking treat may be a distant dream...but go ahead and add on a chimney with bbq for 775, trailer for 1,275, hand trailer for 675, or an ashtray for 90 (all in euros), if you can handle an upgrade.
(Thanks, Joshua, for the tip! Only after we wrote this did we see AT: NY's coverage of the Dutchtub at ICFF '06. Thanks, Maxwell!)

It's like the spinning teacups ride at Disney World, which made my father sick. :)
Yes Joan, it does have that spinning tea cup design.
I'm sure the guys sharing the tub in the above photo are sipping good old dutch ale, which makes me think that for them, the spinning tea cup will not be too far off...

I would never be able to find the time to strap this thing to my car and take it anywhere. I wouldn't sit in it in my back yard and I wouldn't ever take it to some "secluded area next to a mountain and a babbling brook" like it is always pictured. I just can't understand the appeal.

lmao!! The way the first picture shows the flames sort of looking like they're coming from under the tub reminds me of those cartoons where someone got tossed into the pot for dinner!
