Trend Spotting: Treillage

20080811trellis1.jpgEarlier this year, we read that treillage was going to be a big summer trend. So we watched for it. It popped up a lot but that might just be because this pattern, whether used in large doses or as an accent, is a classic. See this oft outdoor design at work after the jump...

20081009trellis10.jpgWallpaper is a natural choice for the grid and symmetry of treillage. Actress Chloe Sevigny washes her entire entry with Kelly Wearstler's Imperial Trellis (top). A bedroom in House Beautiful opts for a subtle treatment (left) and Bungalow8 goes for dark and bold in the dining nook (right).

20081009trellis2.jpgAnother popular medium for treillage is fabric. Theholidaygirl928 put a photoshop mock-up on flickr to test out the addition of trellis upholstered chairs. We sourced the fabric as Maime Bamboo Thatch at Reprodepot. What do you guys think?

20080811trellis4.jpgTreillage can make a relatively easy, albeit time-consuming, DIY. Check out the wardrobe door make-over at Chez Larsson (above) and Jude's ambitious molding wall treatment (below).

20081009trellis4.jpgWe see this pattern built into furniture a lot. West Elm's Overlapping Squares series was the inspiration for Jude's molding project and Tfransen bought one of the chairs for the kitchen (below).

20081009trellis1.jpgEven our editors are climbing this design vine. AT:Chicago's own Sarahc recently accented her living room with Pottery Barn's Tile Jacquard Shower Curtain. It may be meant for the bath but it looks great in the window!

I love these fabrics and wallpapers, but I've never been a big fan of this pattern in furniture. I can't put my finger on exactly why, but something about it just bugs me..

I think it looks good in small doses, like the red chair, but the wallpaper seems a tad much for me.

This green wallpaper in the first picture is exactly the same what my parents had in their living room in the 70-tees. I spottet the pictures.

I'd much rather see this on the floor.

I love this style - and am in the process of searching for this type of patterned fabric in red for the draperies in my den (under $20/yard)

Any ideas?

Hi bepsf-

We found this one while searching for the green thatch fabric. IKEA also has some fun trellis-esque patterns too.

Good luck!

This is a GREAT collection - we are seeing it EXPLODE in furniture design for upholstery and accent pieces.

While I like this in small doses (the red chair), that hallway gives me a headache.
