121806logo_komoda.jpgA new shop offering "gifts for you and yours" just opened its doors over the weekend. Komoda is the brainchild of Sherri Gregorczyk, formerly of RR#1. Entering Komoda, you feel a sense of revived history: a fresh paint job, modern fixtures (check out the incredible hanging lamps below), and products for those that love all aspects of good design (packaging, function, and fun). The history comes from the store's original cash register, cabinetry, and storage shelving/drawers, all of which once made up parts of an old hardware store.

Enter Snow & Graham wrapping paper and cards, candles by Luminiere and Bamboo Garden, and the shop feels like a sweet respite from giftshops that are a little too cluttered and random for their own good. Sherri's selection of stationery from local designers like Mollie Green and Portland-based Egg Press, perfectly complement the shop's jewelry selection, soaps from Pre de Provence, and Frank Lloyd Wright-style pens and biz card cases. There's also a kid's section, full of quirky toys and colorful books, and a cute table and chair set for the kids to kill time while you browse. Whether shopping for gifts or looking for apartment design/furniture inspiration (ie. Sherri's paint colors, light fixtures, tin ceilings...and the amazing red display case (above) scored on Craigslist), Komoda is calling.
