2006-08-11-portelogo.gif Euro-style goods in Wicker Park.

2006-08-11-porterougefront.jpgContemporary French country (and city) flavored tabletop and cookware share the space with antique furnishings and lighting at Porte Rouge.

The shop is charming inside and out (yes, the door is red) and features great lines such as Vietri, Terre e Provence, Spiegelau and Staub.

2006-08-11-porterougetowels.jpg We like the french tea towels (left) for $13, red lacquer salt and peppermills for $32. and the cast iron teapots (especially the bright yellow!) for $100. Muslin-bagged ($18.) and bulk ($9. - 11.) tea from Mariage Freres is available, as well as Nespresso espresso machines for the coffee drinkers.

The range of prices is wide enough to cover casual hostess gifts on up to wedding presents (a registry is available).

Centerstage has this to say about Porte Rouge: "Copper and cast-iron cookware, antique cutting boards and terra cotta jars await customers who have dreamed of setting up their very own French country kitchens in their Chicago flats."
