Product Spotting: Andrea Curtains by IKEA

20080730andrea4.jpgYou know how when you drive an I-GO car, you tend to notice all the other I-GO's out on the road more than usual? Well, this phenomenon also applies to design and the products we love.

Last year, we were this close to snapping up some of these pretty Andrea curtains by IKEA. We ended up not buying them but there are plenty who did. Jump down to see where we spotted this product...

We saw them mentioned on other design blogs, like here on Oh Happy Day.

We caught glimpses on flickr. Even MilliMoMo's teeny sliver didn't escape our eye.

Although they don't specifically source IKEA, the curtains in

Rebecca and Roger's Flux-Redux bedroom look awfully familiar.

Yet the pinnacle sighting is in the boys' room on Bravo TV's Date My Ex.

Does Bravo have a sponsorship from IKEA? I noticed a ton of IKEA products in the new Project Runway house as well.

Funny... my living room is now sporting these, and they are EVERYWHERE. I agree... I hadn't noticed until now.

I like them... I don't care if everyone has them.

Project Runway and other Bravo reality shows (and in fact, nearly every reality show I catch a glimpse of) seem to use primarily Ikea products. I think it's because they can achieve a modern style for their sets on the cheap. Makes sense, I guess?

I've been noticing these curtains popping up all over too! I had the green ones in mind for the living room in our new apartment, but once we picked other items (couch, etc) I realized they wouldn't work.

UWSretreat: I don't think it's just Bravo - I've noticed other reality shows using a lot of IKEA items. It makes sense, I'm sure IKEA helps keep the set budget down, while still giving the "cool" look that the reality shows go for.

IKEA was there at the dawn of reality tv. It was in all the Real World houses long before it conquered America. Mostly we just pined for stuff that cool.

Among the reasons I won't buy IKEA anymore is that it's so easily recognizable as being from IKEA.

Jessica,
You're right. Those are Ikea curtains I have. They were meant to be privacy placeholders till I found fabric I wanted to make curtains out of (the hunt continues). IKEA is perfectly worthy of credits, but think I may have just mentally blocked out the fact that I had curtains at all. Ha.

Darn, I just read somewhere that the new Ikea catalog is coming but I don't recall the exact date. Sometime in August I believe.

I just saw these on a movie - 'The Kingdom', the one where Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Garner are in the middle east as FBI agents. The curtains were hanging in a window where a sniper was sitting.

Whoa! I've had these in my bedroom for 2 years. I like to stare at them when I first wake up - sometimes I only see circles, other times only petals.

Guess it's time for new ones.

The 2009 catalog showed up at my house yesterday, which was a pleasant surprise.

We had these in our old hallway - they were the only color I could get my roommate to agree to.

I'm constantly amazed at my ability to recognize and retain information about IKEA furniture, even though I spend just as much time drooling over other websites...
