We have a large dining table and each have one side - so the monitors are back to back. It works quite nicely.

Am I the only one who doesn't want to sit that close to someone else when I'm working?

My husband and I lived together for a decade in a 450 square foot apartment with no problem. But if we had shared a desk - that would have been a problem.

Good gravy, is this post ever timely for me! I have been scouring AT and other sources for partner desk ideas for the past 2 or 3 days. My husband and I just moved into our first home, and we have a great office area that is being underutilized. We have a desk top computer and my husband also works from home on his company laptop, so the idea of a big ol' desk is very exciting. I can't wait to read what other people have to say about this topic!

Are there any other inspirational partner desk photos to be seen?

Wife & I tried this. Her clutter overwhelmed the desk, and fighting ensued. Never. Ever. Again.

We bought two of the Crate and Barrel "Sloane Leaning Desks" and two of the shelves.

So we have leaning desk - leaning shelf - leaning shelf - leaning desk. We each have our own little work area, it's somewhat private, and in the small space we have, it takes up a wall, looks gorgeous (got a lot of compliments), and doesn't take any space from the rest of the living area.

i got a big new desk and my boyfriend thought it would be cute if he set up his laptop next to me one night.

Love him but after that I make sure I keep that half messy enough where there isnt enough room! Mean huh?

Gotta have a little personal space.

My husband and I have two very close desks and mine can get pretty messy sometimes... I told him to mind his own desk...and it worked out just fine:-)

We back in elementary school computer lab?

Double desks for one is nice, one more?no way.

Yeah, we have the back to back monitors too--this works better for us for all the reasons mentioned--more elbow space, we can have a messy (his) and a neat (mine) side of the desk, and we're not looking over each others' shoulders to see what we're working on every second.

Oh, and here's a tip--we got a large rectangular wooden patio table to use as the desk--the existing hole in the center intended for the umbrella is perfect for running monitor and other wires through to hide the ugliness!

I have this set up for myself and I share with myself. One side is off limits to stacking and clutter and the other less neat and tidy. We never fight over the good chair.

We have a long desk and our two desktop computers on it, side by side. I work from home, but my boyfriend doesn't, so most of the time it works. But his looks when he knows I'm on a tight deadline and still decide to spend 5 minutes checking a website are hard enough for me to want separate desks next time.

i don't understand how this is a small space solution when its just 2 regular sized desks/tables pushed together? it still takes up the space of 2 desks.

xieta - well at least I give you four stars for putting that insane FIRA Ikea box together, I had to return mine or start smoking again.

Lori, that thing almost ended up my relationship with my boyfriend. We put together our kitchen's cabinets, the dinning room table&chairs and the bathroom shelves without a problem, but the Fira thing... I believe it's the most difficult to assemble thing in Ikea.

When my husband and I moved in together seven years ago, we used some of the furniture I had already, among them my old desk I got when I was a teenager. It's our only desk and with a size of 1.60*0.80 m, enough for our two desktop computers, comfortable chairs and some knick knack. This works for my husband and I. We have a long, narrow room for our 'office' and the set up is really quite nice. Not anything I would have in a different sort of space though.

We do a lot of gaming so it's actually more fun to be close :)

HAHA the Fira comments are hilarious. Mine has bent nails sticking out inside the drawers :( It really is ridiculous to put together.

We did this with a long skinny desk from Ikea. It's perfect. So often we want to show one another the things we've found on the internet, and now you can just lean over to see. It works well if you're not super picky about "my space" vs "your space". I suspect the people complaining don't play well with others.

Could you please show how the second to last desk was constructed? I had a similar built in (it was anchored to a concrete wall and covered with drywall) in a home I had 6 years ago, and the carpenter did a lousy job...
