We all take great pride on the condition of the inside and outside of our homes. We buy fresh flowers and spruce up small spaces to make things feel comforting, creative and calm. But what about one of the places your sitting at right now? The computer. Click through the jump to learn more how one man is doing more than his part to keep your computer desktop artistic and refreshed.

Bobby Solomon has taken things into his own hands when it comes to the best wallpaper graphics around. I know it might seem like a small thing to some, but for those who have to sit in front of a computer for more than 20 minutes a day, having something new and fun in a place where you usually see something lame and boring, is a great thing.

The Kitsune Noir blog ("Black Fox" in Japanese and French) is Bobby's personal blog. From there TheDesktopWallpaperProject was born. each Wednesday morning (California/West Coast Time) Bobby posts up a new wallpaper designed by an artist of his choice.
Bobby is doing all the leg work in the operation, and isn't just making a wallpaper himself of some of his favorite works, oh no... he's gone all out and is emailing artists all around the world to have wallpapers made specifically for him. And because artists are generally awesome people, the work keeps pouring in. Check out all of the wallpapers (including the one released this morning) from the DesktopWallpaperProject site.
Because the wallpapers are gifted from the artists, they are all free to use. So check back each week, or if you're like us, each day to find something new to adorn your computer screen. Don't worry about finding the right size... he has them all, including ones for your iPhone and PSP.

Photos are provided by Kitsune Noir.
love the images and ideas.
but here's the thing. i sit in front of the computer all day at work, and then go home and do it some more. I don't think i see my desktop for more then 30 seconds all day. Yeah it's nice to have something on it (i have a nice shot of my business card on our couch here since i always forget the phone number or address and i can find it quickly). But I always have something open. I don't sit at the computer to stare at my desktop, i always have applications open and am working.
So although i love the idea and am going to check out all the images, i just personally don't get the whole desktop image thing.

I totally get it. This is an awesome project and I'm so glad you posted this!
My boss is always complementing me on my wallpaper, how often I change it and the interesting photos and graphics I find. I think it's much better than using the microsoft default images. It's a way to personalize my space, without cluttering my desk with crap.

@jmorey: I agree 100%. However, as I started to write my agreement I realized something: my desktop is visible when my machine is locked. I don't know where you work, but most companies are concerned about security. If you are leaving your desk you should lock your computer -- even if you don't think there is something confidential on your computer, there are many things people can get to by having open access to your machine.

Also: There is a design site I visit (cameronmoll.com) that occasionally has a "Share your desktop" feature. AT could certainly do something related or some variation. On the aforementioned site, the idea is to take a screenshot of your workspace as is -- open windows, etc, or a cropping of those windows. AT could have people share their wallpaper (and where it came from), share their active desktop, or, more AT related: take a snapshot of the room they are currently in and its exact state (warts and all).

doug - no we don't do anything like that. only 3 people in our studio, and the way i feel anyways, it's their machine, not mine, so they can do what they want with it.
Just got done looking at the backgrounds and there is some amazing stuff in there. i'll be downloading a few for future reference.

jmorey - The idea is if a client is in, or a janitor, or whomever. It is very possible that there is nothing that needs to be protected (like if you never log in to your bank account from your work computer) on your work computer. I work in a government building, so I have to. But I agree completely that while I am sitting at my computer I absolutely never see my desktop, and I have two monitors.

Love it! Guilty confession: sometimes I cruise flickr looking for neat images to use as my desktop.
