Office Oasis: Sometimes You Don't Have To Leave Home

081208-office1.jpg The word escape can often seem foreign. Many of us are doing good if we take a 3 day weekend, let alone a week in the Bahamas. Sometimes all we need is a retreat within the walls of our own home to make us feel more at ease. Take for example the office space of 19yr old, Cassy Baker from Queensland, AU. Click through to see more of her handiwork after the jump...

081208-office2.jpg Many aspects of this workspace are homespun or repurposed. For example, her paintbrushes live in a textured toothbrush holder that blends in beautifully with the rest of her tabletop decor. She painted the yellow and aqua canvases herself, as well as the bus route painting. She derived inspiration from the old bus/tram destination blinds and got to work making her own.
She keeps her eyes open for things from anywhere and everywhere; Etsy.com, Ebay.com.au, cheaper department stores like Kmart, Target, Big W & Officeworks. Op-shops and second-hand stores can be great for picking up a bargain, as her yellow chair was found a couple of years ago for $20 and the black one just a couple of weeks ago for $5!

081208-office3.jpg The different textures of white, give body to the space while still keeping it light and airy. This brings the feeling of the outdoors in, since she lives on the amazingly beautiful Sunshine Coast. Cassy suggests ridding yourself of things you don't need. She also loves the simplicity of the white of the decor combined with the edge that her industrial-inspired items provide.

081208-office4.jpg The little origami stars in the candle dish were folded from inside out envelopes.
She keeps a close eye on various Flickr groups, Apartment Decor Communities on Livejournal, and of course Apartment Therapy!

I wish I could be that tiddy at my desk. BUT given how tidy it is, the cords seem a bit out of place.

Wow. My office wasn't nearly that tidy and cool when I was 19! Not that it is now either ...

It's a very pretty office. I can't help but to wonder what her office will look like when she's in her forties (like me) and she has a lifetime of "important" stuff to find a place for!
