Living in an old house comes with its charms, as does living in a small house. Combine living in an old and small house, though, and you'll almost invariably come up short on one thing: closet space! Here's how one mom invented more storage for her son when closet space was tight...

With a large, wooden bowl picked up for next to nothing at a garage sale years earlier, Jami created shoe storage for her three-year-old son. She stained the wood to a darker tone to fit in better with their old Craftsman-style bungalow. Now, the bowl sits on the dresser in Parker's bedroom and gives him easy access to his shoes. This method also makes picking up fun for the toddler set: tidying shoes is as easy as picking them up and dropping them into the bowl!
