Location: Santa Monica, Los Angeles, California
Size: 1,300 square feet
Years in business: 23 years
I have talked about Chris Barrett before, when she was launching her very first textile line. I am absolutely crazy about her style, and I don't know why it took me so long to stop by her studio and capture the place where all her magic happens.

The ladies of Chris Barrett Design looked like they were having so much fun . The entire time I was photographing the studio I heard laughing and arguing over music choices. I was even offered a cupcake from Sweet Lady Jane. It really is a dream workspace!

Apartment Therapy Survey:
Our Style: Our style is chic and inviting.
Inspiration: Inspiration was easy for this space. We are working in an old warehouse space at the old Santa Monica Studios. It's inherently industrial.
Favorite Element: We love the sliding barn door!
Biggest Challenge: We struggle with the temperature control! It's either too hot or too cold.
What Friends Say: Everyone loves the quality of light in our space.
Biggest Embarrassment: We're not embarrassed, but wish we could improve the parking here. There is never enough!
Proudest DIY: We used plumbing pipes to create the handrail for the staircase, then wrapped it with twine. That was such a time consuming project, but very worth it.
Biggest Indulgence: We got a toaster oven to make cookies.
Best Advice: Be brave. Be confident.

What a lovely space! Bright, beautiful, and functional - perfect.
Great space. Clean, bright, and functional!
pretty space =)
Gorgeous workspace, and that chandelier is to die for! I'm a sucker for anything with a distressed finish.
So Beautiful! Can you tell me where that couch is from?
Obsessed with wrapping pipes with twine, though I always worry it will end up looking too nautical. But every time I see it I think it looks so great and chic and smart.
Long story short: love love love the staircase.
Very warm and inviting!
Where are the bookshelves from?
Such a gorgeous space, I imagine that even a Philistine would find creative inspiration being in here.
Something about this space reminds me of a library in all the best ways. I imagine working here in silence and loving it.
Hey Smarteralec,
I truly think if you leave out all navy and white stripes or any anchors, etc., you avoid a twine = nautical equation. After all, twine is just as useful on a farm, or in a factory - heck, for many house projects, in addition to wrapping your banisters or other pipes. ;)
Just meant for a little reassurance. If you love the look, I bet it will also look great and chic in your home!
This looks like the work environment I dream about. Wonder why more companies don't make their design studios this chic and comfortable?? Sure would change attitudes about going to work!
