For those of you who think that taking on a renovation as a DIY project is an impossibility, take a peek at Chris's home. According to Chris, the desire for a beach-style home overrode any obstacles in the way and over the last 7 years, the house has been transformed.
Chris tells us: My home is a standard builder home in the suburbs just outside of Toronto, I having a love of older home set out to add character to this basic box of a home.
Over the last 7 years I have taught myself how to tackle tiling, carpentry and flooring along with the usual decorating skills that I brought to the house like painting and sewing. Room by room I have added trimwork, beadboard, window seats, creating my signature "beachy" style. Although we don't live near the beach or in a beach state or province, nothing was going to stop me from creating my vision of a relaxed beach style home for my family.
DIY is now a deep passion of mine , I often need to get my "fix", some people shop, I rip out and re-build. Throughout this journey I have become an interior decorator , what a journey ...
Thanks, Chris!

I too love the beach house style and commend you for an authentic looking casual style. I especially like the dining room and bedroom
Beautiful--would love to see more!
This home is lovely...it is beach-y without being overdone!
Love it! More pics please!
It's warm and charming - not something I thought I'd ever say about a basic builder house! This is great inspiration for all of us who long for a home full of character, but instead live in a basic box with little intrinsic charm. Well done, Chris!
I love the curtains to the left of the kitchen! Who is the fabric by and where can I purchase it? Thanks!
I would never have guessed that's Ontario. It looks like it ought to be next to the ocean. Great job in creating your vision.
Yay Canada.
Lovely.
I love the color in the bedroom! What color paint/brand is that (the beige tone) above the moulding?
