- What I Love About My Small Home:
- An open layout lets me cook while I entertain guests lounging on my sofa. I built a butcher block island that divides kitchen and living room with a surface wide enough for large cooking and baking projects, and plenty of storage. The table's base, made of black steel pipes from a hardware store, holds the butcher block surface over two pine shelves, which were cut at local lumber yards and oiled to take away the raw look and ease cleaning (Images courtesy of Smith Schwartz @ Apartment Therapy).
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- Storing a lot of cooking and baking equipment is challenging in a small kitchen with minimal cabinets and just one drawer. Thank goodness for my butcher block storage and a shelf above the sink to hold glasses and plates.

Now, THAT is an island !!! very very efficient use of space.
I like it, efficient but cozy. Plus extra points for having Settlers of Catan under your coffee table!
Beautiful apartment, looks so spacious and light!
Plus that kitchen window is amazing!
that looks like a part of a home that might be rented out... hence the front door next to the bed and kitchen in the living room.
it looks homey :)
Where is that island from? I've been looking for something like that and that's the best one I've seen.
I LOVE this. I love how you've managed to have a space that feels "big" - kitchen storage, large table, entertaining space, counter space in the kitchen (thanks to your amazing island...) in such a small space. Lovely!
I especially like the island and the kitchen chairs - they look solid and pretty and comfy!
Like the large window in the kitchen.
OK, imagine you're telling someone you'll meet them at the apartment that belongs to Chris. Do you say, "See you at Chris' place"? Because everyone I know would say, "See you at Chris's place". Whether Chris's place was on this side of the Atlantic or that.
Am I the only one who is confused by the shot of the bedroom in terms of how it fits into the floor plan? Plus, the image of the floorplan is flip-flopped from the actual apartment. It makes my brain hurt that the layout in the photos is the reverse of the layout in the floorplan. Aside from this, it's a nice place!
love the kitchen table and chairs
Love your place! I am also envious of small apartments with separate bedrooms. I'll take 390 sq ft with a tiny bedroom over a studio any day.
Haha you know you've done a good job when people can only comment on your usage of the apostrophe in the title of this post!
no matter how many times I look, I just CAN'T wrap my head around the layout when I see the pictures. I have no sense of this space.
I'd love to know the dimensions of the kitchen island. This is exactly what I'm looking for, for my kitchen.
I dont understand the layout. The floor plan shows the kithen window on the left side, but the pic show it on the right side. Is the photo turned around?
I remember this house has already been toured.
For those that love that island, I know for a fact, Chris built it himself! Also, for those confused by the plan and the pics, the plan is flipped. If you can visualize mirroring it so that the wall with the kitchen window is at the top, you're golden! Chris has always been good with cozy! And he'll whip up midnight vegan pancakes in a jiffy.
I've avoided apartments like this in the past, because there is no barrier between the kitchen and living room; The island solves that problem, and creates more storage and counter space. Love it!
I feel like I've seen this place before.
Chris made efficient use of each inch of his apartment. It is a beautiful haven, flows smoothly, light and airy, and is not cluttered. Kudos and well done!
I love the way the rooms have let in the light which makes the rooms look bigger and brighter. The use of space and the island in the kitchen has been used most effectively in providing more space and gives the room character. I like the way the kitchen has been designed where one can cook and talk to their guests at the same time. The way it all flows smoothly is inviting.Well done.
The Use Of Space Is Excellent. I Would Like To Have a Home Like This. Living In London Space Is Always a Premium. It Has a Delightful Energy And Aura. This Apartment Is Just Great To Come Home To.
