What I Love About My Small Home:
An open layout lets me cook while I entertain guests lounging on my sofa. I built a butcher block island that divides kitchen and living room with a surface wide enough for large cooking and baking projects, and plenty of storage. The table's base, made of black steel pipes from a hardware store, holds the butcher block surface over two pine shelves, which were cut at local lumber yards and oiled to take away the raw look and ease cleaning (Images courtesy of Smith Schwartz @ Apartment Therapy).
Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
Storing a lot of cooking and baking equipment is challenging in a small kitchen with minimal cabinets and just one drawer. Thank goodness for my butcher block storage and a shelf above the sink to hold glasses and plates.
