- What I Love About My Small Home:
- What I love most is that despite its small size, it feels really spacious thanks to the large french doors which I keep open all the time. The building dates back to the mid 19th century, so this history is present all the time. At the same time my collection of furniture and art from different periods builds an amazing bridge to the present. A home should never feel dated; that's why as an interior designer I also encourage my customers to invest in furniture that feels timeless and that dates from various periods they like, to make their aparment feel like it has grown rather than like it was overly designed just recently.
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- Being a young interior designer and using my own apartment as a playground to try out new things, I actually loved that I had a limited amount of space. Especially the need for storage space demanded quite some creativity.
That's why I put my closet right in the middle of the bedroom as a kind of room divider. In that way it was possible to almost create a walk in closet and keep the bedroom itself very calm and open, whithout having to fill it with cupboards.
I also had to deal with a very standard white kitchen, so I created the black and white stripes using black plastic tape to set a dramatic background for the many parties I love to give.

love it,
but what the heck is a "weiner wasser"
I'm scared to ask...
wow! i really love this!
I'm guessing he's really proud of Vienna's tap water!
Looks amazing!
Although I am confused by the photos (especially the last one...in the middle is that a wall or is have two photos been combined into one so as to have more shots etc) It does look really nice though!
Maybe it's just me...
I would have liked a wide angle, or more distance rather than that close up of the kitchen.
LOL...I keep looking at this...can't be a wall!! Sorry, I posted three times...I told you I was confused! I wish I could edit my post...if there is a way, will someone please enlighten me. Thank you!
I REALLY like the floating closet to create a headboard. This is a lovely space. Except the kitchen stripes, which I find hideous, but hey, nobody's making me do it to my kitchen.
IMagnificent. Goes beyond the category here,; professional and high end enough for publication, yet I could feel at home.
I like how the closet also serves to create a sort of hallway between the kitchen and bedroom, since having a door from the kitchen directly to the bedroom would be... odd.
The stripes in the kitchen are pretty wild, but I like! Why not?
Love, love, love your place!!!!
CHELLE BELLE
"two photos been combined into one so as to have more shots etc)" - i think you are right on... two photos...
I love to see a full blown tour... maybe if it does win ... then AT will do a full tour? :) very nice!
"weiner wasser" - Yep seems like Vienna is also very proud of its water :) LOL comments r so cute & funny...
Hello everybody,
thanks for your great comments and votes! I'm overwhelmed. I'd love to answer some of your questions:
@happiestcamper: As some of the other comments guessed "Wiener Wasser" is a local term for Viennas famous tap water. It comes directly from springs in the mountains, so its quality is superb.
@chelle belle: You guessed right. The last photo is actually a little trick of mine to get an additional photo in there ;) I just couldn't decide which one to pick. The left side shows the view from the living room into the bedroom, the right side is the entrance/library facing the entry.
Keep sharing and voting please!
Where do you eat?
Beautiful place and well laid out! I really like the stripes, as they inject a bit of whimsy. Love the wood floors as well. However I do wonder if that double photo is allowed? I'm sure most people had a hard time deciding which photos to use.
@jennasophia: I live there on my own, so I usually eat on the little table in the kitchen or on my desk. When I host dinnerparties I reorganize the living room and put up a big round dining table right in the centre underneath the chandelier.
@designgratislondon: Since every entry is checked by apartmenttherapy befor it goes online I guess they are alright with my little photo trick. However if they insisted on changing it I would of course have done it. ;)
Love the parquet floors- stunning! Otherwise I like this place a lot too- got my vote!
Gorgeous! I love everything about it, the floor, the bookcases (drool!), the doors between the library (double drool!) and the living room, and the curtains. Your beautiful home has so many classical and traditional elements that exist only in my dream home. So, when are you moving out so I can move in?
Very unusual and interesting use of space- and the kitchen stripes make a huge impact while being both economical and removeable.
I would like to see a house tour to get a better sense of the whole place.
excellent job
I love the fact you seem to have fun. Obviously, you did not pick a style and hold yourself to that. Instead you are surrounded by everything you love. It has a really positive vibe!
Are you sure it is 750 S.F.? The bedroom alone is around 250 S.F. (area of queen bed is 33 S.F. and the room is 9 times the size from the plan)
Looks more like 900-1000 S.F. to me. Unless everything is custom-made smaller Euro-furniture.
Amazing spacious feel. And that living room chair is REGAL.
Compared to some of the other entries, 750 sq. ft. is practically palatial for one person. (I know anything under 1000 is allowed, but some entries have two people living in under 400!)
Very classy use of fun colors!
Pretty stunning use of space. It looks way bigger than 750 sq ft.
I would love to see the other side of that bedroom wall to see how you did the closet. And of course more long shots, like of the kitchen. It's really hard to digest those stripes without context.
House tour, please!
I just have to say 'WOW !'
It's stunning !
I love everything about it. Light, colours, boldness...
Vienna, yay! Very well done. Love the closet solution. Which district are you living in?
Smashing!
Love your place- favorited! Especially the colors- just the right amount of drama and interest. :) Hope you'll check out my place (JoAnn's Truly Happy Home)- I'd love to get an expert's opinion! Good and bad.
I'm still so happy about so much positive feedback :) Some questions occured, so here I am again:
@Zenezie: I don't plan on moving, but if you move to Vienna, there are plenty apartments with this kind of details. And it is the most beautiful city to live in ;)
@Adora: I'm positive, it is only 750 s.f. It looks very very spacious because of the french doors, which I always keep open. A lot of people visiting also think it is bigger. And I don't know that Euro furniture is smaller *LOL*
@Lillian: You've been to Vienna? I live in the 5th district, right at the Naschmarkt. My favourite part of the city. :)
@Joshi: Thanks for voting. I checked out your place, it is beautiful. Actually there is no bad feedback, I absolutely adore it. Good job! I hope there aren't too many like you out there because then nobody would need my services anymore ;) Favorited your place as well. I hope I'll get a lot more votes as well. How did you do that?
To everybody who wants a house tour. I might post a link to my facebook page which has more photos of the apartment, but will do that on the last day. I don't want to be unfair and share too many photos while the contest is running!
hype, hype, hype!!!
need a tour of this one...i wanna know how to make that wardrobe/headboard cuz it's lovely.
omg! Please help me decorate my house!!!
"wiener wasser" is water from vienna ;-)
Just beautiful. If I lived there, I would never leave the house!
i could live here!
Berliner grüßt Wiener :)
There are lots of nice features in your apartment. My favorite is the hall way with the vintage chairs, the bookshelves and the Madonna with the child picture. Love it.
...and I like the kitchen stripes and the "Wiener Wasser" inscription. Nice Kontrapunkt.
@Pamwriter: I'd love to help you ;) If you pay for flight and accomodation I'll come wherever you live. Haha....
@Ladyl: That is why I love to invite guests over ;) So I don't have to leave.
@Maielei: Wien grüßt Berlin!
@Very Artsmart: Nobody fainted yet. Well, at least not because of the stripes ;)
@Everybody: If you like my work go visit my facebook site and like it: www.facebook.com/ch.interiordesign

<3 it!
