- What I Love About My Small Home:
- I love that our home feels homey and is filled with color, clean design, art and weird objects. I like minimalist mid-century design, but I am also a fan of weird and colorful, so I am happy that we are able to have a home with all these elements that feels cozy and inviting.
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- Our house has a challenging layout. There are heat vents, cold-air returns and windows in the most inconvenient places. Also, the rooms are laid out in a way where it is hard to fill them with furniture while maintaining walking space. Solving these issues required a lot of furniture shuffling and sometimes sacrificing a heat vent or window sill to get the best furniture placement for the room.

WOW! This place is just so stinkin happy! Great job! :)
Great harmony - very nice.
Love the artwork!
You are talented. What a bright, happy place! Love those kitchen shelves with the pops of color.
where are your dining room chairs from?
You nailed the mid-century vibe but there's just enough funky art and bright, happy color to make it feel like a home I could live in comfortably without feeling like I'm living in a Mad Men world. Great job!
what a great small space! there are so many elements that delight the eye. love the use of colors!
Your collection of art really rocks that place! What a great home!
Love all your MCM furniture choices. Especially the fantastic wood bed in the one bedroom. Who is the artist of those wonderful colorful paintings?
Love the color palette!
love!!!
This was my favorite place in last year's Small Cool. It was featured in a house tour about a year ago.
Christine & John's Breezy Ann Arbor Ranch
I love this so much. The bright primary colors, the shelving in the kitchen, that gorgeous bed. A real stand out in this division, well done.
Greats pops of color throughout!
Thanks everyone! I obsessively stlak these comments, so keep 'em comin'!
Most paintings are by my husband. The cairs are from Craigslist :)
I didn't put a picture of our great china/display cabinet in (which I regret), but you can see it and more of our house (before a few changes) in our hous tour that B Duke posted above.
Thanks for voting.
Chairs, rather.
Christine, I bookmarked your house last year during the house tour and was hoping to see this entered into the contest. The happy bread painting inspired me to paint a cartoon taco affectionately named Taco Ted that helps my better half and I celebrate Taco Tuesday.
We love the color; color just calmly screams happiness. Happiness is the feeling I want to experience after a long day's work. Good job!
love, love the colors. Happy place. love your kitchen
What a cheerful home! Love the kitchen!
Absolutely delightful!
Where did you get your amazing green couch?!
I'm in love.
Is the sofa the Corona from Macy's? If so how do you like it?
I love it. It looks like a place you'd want to sit and have a cup of coffee with a friend. It's absolutely wonderful! Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks again, everyone. Taco Ted!
The sofa is the Corona sofa from Macy's. At the time I got it you could get a lot of different colors (I was torn between the green and the reddish) but now I think it only comes in 2 or 3 neutrals. I like it- it's comfy and the fabric is nice. I wish it was a little lower profile (it towers above my 50's furniture), but other than that it is great.
Oh thank you! I have never loved a piece of furniture so much in my life.
Wonderful aesthetic. Ive always wanted to live in a neat place like this.
I LOVE this the most of the ones I have seen yet! What I really love is the cozy, minimalist, colorful feel of it all. The artwork is not really my style, but it's yours and that's what's important. And the fact that your husband did most of the art himself - that is pretty special. Great space and beautifully decorated!
I love how bright you have things! Color is so great in a small space, great job!!
giant space if you ask me.
I love this living room. At first glance I keep thinking we have twin couches, but mine has three independent back cushions without the tufting (way less cute, but it was $13 at a thrift store, so whatever). I think this is what my living room would look like if I didn't have a roommate (and all of her furniture).
I love the colorful clean happiness.
