Christmas Decorating Countdown, Advent Calendar Style

Christmas Decorating Countdown, Advent Calendar Style

Dec 4, 2009

The traditional advent calender consists of 24 treats or Christmas messages, opened one day at a time on each day leading up to Christmas. While treats are always welcomed in our house, we're digging Coastal Living's decor-centered twist. Each day is a chance to slowly reign in the Christmas spirit and beautify the home.

All 25 ideas are pretty simple, classic, and attainable— a welcome change to the glittery bustle of the holidays. By focusing on the process of seasonal decor one day at a time, it's easier to enjoy all the little touches that make this time of year special, rather than seeing holiday decorating as something that just needs to "get done." Some favorite ideas...

•1. Use subtle metallic touches like the galvanized buckets filled with fragrant paperwhites and glittery pine cones to add classic sparkle.
• 2. Create a simple alternative tree adornment in the bedroom with cut branches and small ornaments.
• 3. Arrange evergreen branches in vases in lieu of flowers to spread their holiday scent and color throughout the home.
• 4. Dress up your dining room by hanging ornaments whimsically from the chandelier.
