Name: Christopher and Javier
Location: Downtown Los Angeles, California
Size: 1,345 square feet
Years lived in: 4 months
Christopher and Javier's loft could be mistaken for an underground nightclub - the bright/neon paint colors, turntables, music collection, LED lighting, and an overall dark, moody space. I thought I was missing the coolest house party in downtown, but it turns out they host more dinner parties than dance offs. With a large dining room table and island seating, Christopher loves to spend time cooking up a storm in the kitchen and entertaining guests.

When Christopher and Javier first looked at the loft apartment, it was in a very raw state and needed a lot of work including adding additional lighting and laying flooring to cover up a patch of rough concrete. Christopher says, "It took a bit of convincing Javier that this was going to be a great apartment, but he reluctantly saw my vision after laying it out for him."
Javier and Christopher were determined to transform their raw space into a home in a very short period of time. The weekend and after work dedication paid off and now they can relax just a bit and enjoy their space.

Apartment Therapy Survey:
Our Style: Mid-Century techno-industrial
Inspiration: I've lived in all types of Los Angeles housing except for a loft. It was time! Suburbia was a little too slow.
Favorite Element: The space! It's an open floor plan loft, but the layout lends itself to how the space will be used.
Biggest Challenge: There was very little storage space, so we had to work a lot in figuring out where it made sense to add shelving, etc. Visio and a lot of measuring and scale diagrams made it possible to get everything beforehand, so we weren't figuring it out when we got here.
What Friends Say: Most people are impressed by the amount of work that was accomplished in under a month. We toiled night and day throughout March to get everything just right (but we're always changing things around).
Biggest Embarrassment: In a couple of storage spaces, things are a bit untidy. At least they are hidden well!
Proudest DIY: The shelving unit in the dining room, laying the floor in the bedroom / bathroom, running electrical lines, boxes and switches, and painting every single wall in the place (Javier did most of it, as I injured my shoulder two nights before moving in).
Biggest Indulgence: It's a toss-up between the technology and some of the Eames / Nelson furniture pieces.
Best Advice: Measure twice, cut once. When planning out a space, it's very important to get things right the first time. Don't rush!
Dream Source: I wish I could have the MOMA furniture collection to pick and choose from!

1) Great loft
2) Gimme the dog
3) I want the dog
4) Your floors match the dog
The color scheme would wear on me very fast, but nice loft. And the dog is adorable.
I love it! I would be totally at home in a place like that. My place is tiny, but if I went big again I would want to do a big open industrial space.
Ditto Medusa.
Ugh, this is so awesome I might die from all the awesome.
Also ditto Medusa.
LOVE.
I love everything about this; I can't even begin to count the ways.
Party at Sante Fe Lofts!
love it, love walle and eva!
Woah... monitors! You can really make a lot of noise in there...
Nice pooch.
The kitchen feels like a company cafeteria to me. I would not be able to co-exist with that colour scheme myself.
Holy quadraphonic! I totally want to be invited to one of their dinner parties.
In a post like this, in addition to sources for the things in the home, a playlist (or two or three) would be nice and would fit with the post, since I'm sure they use music to set a mood as much as they do decor.
Looks like this is one of the units in the Gilmore Lofts.
What a great space, I would probably decorate it a bit different but it's still cool.
I had to laugh when I read the Boy George quote - I was at a Sydney Mardi Gras party one year when a poor party-goer was flattened by a giant mirror ball which fell from the ceiling. BTW - excellent space!
WALL-E! And nice loft too. But seriously, WALL-E! I want one too!
Not quite my taste, but still pretty cool. =)
Good work you two. I love the colors... looks like what I did with my place, but mine isn't quite as techy, lol... but it's kind of going that direction too. Cool kitchen bar height table. I love the lofty, tech vibe you got going!
I looove that LUSH poster on the floor!!!
Love it, but the actual Boy George quote is slightly different: "It would have been both ironic and glamorous to be finished off by a four-foot glitter ball. " (I think I like yours better--don't tell George!)
The lighting is super intense- very theatrical.
I'm looking forward to seeing it evolve more as time goes by, it's missing something...I can't put my finger on it.
great space packed full of tasty electronics but why do you have x4 685's sitting in a row?
Hey guys this is Chris, thanks for the positive comments. As we've only been in the apartment for 4 1/2 months, we are still evolving stuff every day.
Tonia: I realized that the quote was wrong, but was in a rush to put something that wasn't a shopping list on the chalkboard.
Donkamio: We leave the speakers that way when we aren't watching surround movies and use "all channel stereo" when listening to music (which we do more of)... it gives extra fill to the room. You probably noticed no center channel, but that's on the way (B&W HTM61). It's been backordered, and I felt like it was really missing as far as anyone knowing what the surround setup would be. Also, the turntable shelf wasn't ready to put up yet, so that's why it's on top of the left cabinet...
Lizzy: It's still missing a bit of "living in", in my opinion... Unfortunately, there aren't more photos of the bedroom... it's not as boring as it seems. We have some lovely lighting, and the windows look out onto a fire escape, which adds visual interest. We are going to place some sort of art / sculpture in there, but have to find the right pieces... It's all a work in progress
We appreciate that the color scheme is not for everyone... Hell, it may not even be for *us* in the long-term, but it's fun for now, and we like it (and paint is a snap to change). We were definitely trying to make each section of the apartment have its own energy and mood... The living room / office are centered around entertainment and work, the kitchen / dining room around functionality and hosting a lot of people (I like to have an audience of sorts when I'm cooking, who doesn't love to gather around a home cooked meal while it's being cooked, have a glass of wine, ask questions, etc?) / the bedroom as a bit of a tranquil escape where you can focus on actually sleeping and relaxing.
If anyone has any suggestions, or wants to see it as it comes along, I can definitely post about updates... just let me know.
Oh, and Sasha (the dog) thanks you for the love.
So wonderful! I want my basement to look this chic! I think you have inspired me to get painting. The orange and green are spectacular and bold.
