Name: Christopher
Location: The heart of the Mission 'el Corazon', San Francisco
So this is my Mission flat. It has gone through many changes over 8 years that I've been there, but finally it seems to have reached homeostasis. I am happy with it.
The styling draws heavily from the 1960s. I have always been inspired by the optimistic faith in the plastic future and technology that the early the mid-century aesthetic captures. I think it is the last period who's faith in the future went completely unchallenged. The decay of that simple Utopian sensibility is as beautiful in it's naivete as it is tragic.
Traditionally, I have been a modern purest but in embracing the florid quality of my 1900 Queen Anne flat, I have lately been contrasting my danish modern pieces with more baroque elements. I love the tension.
Thanks, Christopher!

Shaw's Original Fir...
The living room is perfectly feminine.
I like the combination of mixing formal and casual elements. Who needs a rule book?!
ladymantle - I kinda like the mix of midcentury and early 20th/late 19th century details (I think that's what you didn't like?). I think it makes the place look comfortable but still elegant. I especially love the feel of the living room. I guess to each his own! :)
awallnut - lol guess you beat me to it:P
Love your place! Where did you find that stunning blue coverlet? I have been looking for one just like that!
I wish there were more pictures...
I really, really like this. It's not really my style, but I love it.
Lovely!
Nice! I wish I could see more though
Not feeling the animal hides draped over the chairs or the dead bird on the wall in the living room but i dig everything else!
I find the color combination in the LR incredibly different and soothing. Garden looks intriguing.
That living room/salon is gorgeous! Too formal for me to live with, but I still love it greatly. :)
Also, I really love all the plants, particularly in the bedroom. Could I get the names of those plants, by any chance? Thanks!
Fascinating color combos- love the peach/gray/olive in the living room.
I'd love to see more of this apartment!
full house tour please! I love the mix of styles, the jungle in the bedroom, and the beautiful quality of light throughout.
oh. my. goodness.
this is stunning!
I love this apartment. I've seen it in person, and all I can say is MORE, MORE, MORE! Really, these few images don't do it justice. The amount of time and energy in that kitchen just blows me away. It's truly genius. And what Christopher can do with a Christmas tree is out of this world.
"Could I get the names of those plants, by any chance?"
Seymour, Audrey, Orin...
...Hey - Where's Audrey II?
Absolutely Beautiful!
That bedroom is gorgeous and magical!
Love the kitchen - where are the table and chairs from? Thanks!
I love the silverware! Where can I get that same style?
Where is the pic of Christopher? I have been in this apartment many times and it is lovely. There is almost something for everyone in each space and these pics really do not show enough of the mastery throughout the flat. House tour and more pics please!!!
That living room is just spectacular. I love the unusual mix of styles!
House tour please?? These pictures are fabulous! I'd love to see more, especially of the dining/kitchen area.
I really enjoyed the little bit of this house I saw. It's so lush, vivid and fertile! I would actually like to see an house tour.
I'd like it if there were no stuffed ducks etc.
LOVE the colors in the living room. Just gorgeous.
@ladymantle: Work boots with a ballgown!? Maybe, but you say that like it's a bad thing. Design is supposed to be about mixing elements in unexpected ways. There is nothing more boring, design-wise, than a room from one era. You're constructing a living space, not a museum exhibit.
Furthermore...which is supposed to be the workboots? The beautiful, well-made, luxurious moldings, or the beautiful, well-made, luxurious Danish furniture? Both examples speak to refinement and quality craftsmanship. That could never clash.
Never seen curtain rods hung 3/4 of the way up a window before with long curtains. That was the most surprising element in a charming house call.
Oh, I just love this house! I need to see more of it!
I really enjoy this and would love to see more. It's interesting to read folks who interpret the living room as feminine, because I was impressed with how it felt gender balanced AND used peach at the same time.
How do you dust a duck? Do moths etc not infest it?
Otherwise, love the living room
Ballgowns and work boots? ok ...I guess, I'd have to agree, if you mean there's tension. If I had my way, I'd have an Eichler in the hills. What I got was a Queen Anne and in the flats. I had to rectify the disconnect as best I could. ...or maybe you meant ball gown taste on a work boot budget in which case I'd agree then too.
The dead animals are grotesque. Absolutely. The grotesque baroque movement began as an attempt by artists to inspire empathy and disgust simultaneously in the viewer. Nailed it. I dust them as needed with a damp cloth. They have damage which I think adds to the macabre quality.
The usual indoor suspects: monstera, pothos, yucca, ficus, begonia and tillansia. available anywhere (in SF try my girl Flora Grubb)
Grey, olive, and PEACH? I was telling myself grey, brady green, and jute. At first I thought, 'no that's just a trick of the color levels in the shot' then I realized I probably just in denial. omg, there IS some peach. yikes. It used to be only grey and green. I wanted to add warmth and pick up the teak.
The 3/4 curtain decision did two things. The windows are rickety, divided aluminum from the 40s. I wanted some direct light for my plants but hated seeing my pillows sun fade. The rod is hung to hide the division and allow for some direct exposure.
At the risk of calling attention to my own folly, I agree, I have never seen a curtain grommet I liked. Along with tab top, I hate them. Furthermore, the hardware that shows is embarrassing. Still, at some point you have to concede to what you can find. Shopped for curtains lately? Tab top and grommets rein. I hung them telling myself they'd get tailored shortly. It never happened and there they hang. I think the fabrics were good choices.
Overture, thanks. I love a good read. Thank you everyone else for your interest. I too hope you'll be seeing more...
-Christopher Radcool Reynolds
In a mini tour why in the world are we seeing silverware and socks on a line? What a waste.
I thought this home was lovely. Not really my style but very relaxed, love the colors and cheefulness, and all of the plants in the bedroom.
More, more, more...I want to see more!!!!! In fact I beg to see more. I'm not too proud. Christopher you have done an amazing job...I LOVE it!!!
Beautiful place! Just one thing... the dead fox is... um, distasteful.
I really love the living room in this house. We have chairs that are almost identical to the green chairs in the picture. While I like the color, I have never been able to figure out how to make them work in our home. Thank you for the inspiration! They look great here - maybe we don't have to recover ours!
Please. In a "House Call" with only five shots, we have to see two vignettes--a table setting and a clotheseline? I seriously do not see what the point is of these shots, as artistically interesting as they may be. The first three photos gave me the idea that I would like to see more...and then I was (once again) let down by AT's failure to edit the submitted images appropriately...
House tour please!
I would love to see more in a house tour as well.
Christopher, your bed linens are really striking my fancy. Can you tell me where you got them, particularly the blue bedspread?
