A recycling bin made of recycled paper? We were dubious at first, but we could see it being useful for a temporary living situation, say an apartment you know you're going to leave in a year, or a dorm. Then when you leave, you can just recycle your recycle bin and walk away.
This recycle bin was inspired by... guess! A cardboard box. It's available in six designs, and can be made with a custom designed, if you order a minimum amount. It costs $23.98, and is available from StudioCrank.

When you move to a new place or back home, you don't have use for a wastebasket anymore? And $24, ostensibly plus shipping, for something that will look crappy in a hurry? I don't git it.
ugh- this just seems like a huge waste, way over priced and frankly, silly. Most plastic waste bins are made from recyclable plastic anyway- so why not buy something that will last for more than a year (or a week) and then when you do want a new one could be donated or recycled?
Also many, many municipalities accept more than paper and more and more are going single stream (so you don't need to separate paper, glass, etc.) I can't imagine one of these handling bottles, cans, etc.
With regards to both how this looks and how long it would possibly last w/ normal use, it's maybe a half step above a Trader Joe's paper bag.
I just use paper shopping bags and then recycle the whole thing.
It's becoming extremely frustrating that companies (and websites hocking their wares) claiming to be green go for the easiest, and LAST part of the original waste hierarchy. The words are in the order they are because of their effectiveness and importance. It's not RECYCLE, reduce, reuse; it's REDUCE, reuse, recycle. As in, QUIT BUYING SO MUCH SHIT!
@veggiegirl2: YES. I liken this "hey, green's in, people will buy anything if we slap a 'recyclable' label on it!" to a relatively recent political candidate who expected that women would vote for him just because he got hisself one for a running-mate and that they would fail to notice that she was anti-woman and that this was clearly totally patronizing. Or whoever it was who quipped, when the GOP acquired Michael Steele at a bit of a suspicious time, that "it's not just ANY black guy!" I don't vote with my ovaries, I don't buy disposable and/or overpriced crap just because it's recyclable, and I kind of resent this naked money grab by people who clearly don't give a rip about actual environmental issues, just want to make a buck. (Well, I mean, that's almost everybody, but you know what I mean.) I think it boils down to the fact that the designers of this item don't actually understand the issue, they just see a market and some buzzwords. Yes, you should be "green" and "recyclable," but you must also have "merit" and "value" and ideally be "recyclED," not just "recyclABLE."
Perhaps this belongs at Re-Nest. :)
Ha, veggiegirl, yes. I agree, this is a wasteful piece of shit. If you know you're going to leave your current place in a year, why can't you just take your stuff with you? Is it that hard to add a wastepaper bin to your carload of stuff? Or just, you know, leave it there for the next person. Jeez.
It was 'inspired by a cardboard box'.
Um...then why not just use a cardborad box?
