Hamsters are the ideal pets for small spaces. This is according to my daughter's best friend whose hamster just had babies and is corroborated by the hamster propaganda books that my daughter keeps bringing home from the school library. I guess it's time to start looking for a cage.
It's not that I have anything against hamsters, it's just that I've lived in old rental houses with rodent problems, so the idea of inviting one to live with us seems insane. Plus, my daughter and I were just beginning to discuss transitioning her room from toddler cottage to tween chic, and now I have the challenge of incorporating a big, plastic cage, and, quite frankly, most of them look like old iMacs with medical tubes sticking out of them. Gross.
Fortunately, a little googling turned up this hilarious circus-themed cage. Leave it to the Italians to come up with awesome design. This company, Ferplast, also sells a more basic model that looks pretty good. And if any of you readers have a lead on modern, chic hamster homes, I'd love to hear your input in the comments.
