Sleek, uber modern and circular, our dad just couldn’t figure it out. But after a few frustrating minutes, it became clear – close the door and the shower automatically kicks in. 7-9-citizenm4.jpgThis isn’t the only unusual feature of the two-week old Amsterdam hotel. It features check-in kiosks (vs. a traditional concierge desk) and modular rooms pre-made in a factory off-site. And upon arrival, they ask about your “mood” – business, party, relaxation or romance – and adjust the room’s lighting according to your preference. 7-9-citizenm5.jpgOur parents loved the Vitra and Eames furniture and the opportunity to share their opinions with one of the hotel's four investors. Most of all, they liked the change of pace from their previous accommodations – a 17th century villa in Tuscany . See if we ever skip a family trip again!
