What happens when you cross Harry & David with Babies R Us? You get baby product subscription services like Citrus Lane and bluum sending you curated products for your baby every month. There are book-of-the-month clubs and even bacon-of-the-month clubs, so perhaps mail-based services catering to parents was an inevitability.
Here's how Citrus Lane works: subscribers get a box of 4-5 products every month, along with parenting tips for whatever stage you and your baby are experiencing. All the products are tested and recommended by parents. You can choose 3, 6, or 12 month subscriptions for yourself or to give as a baby gift. The service costs $25 a month, and includes at least $50 worth of merchandise in every box.
Newly launched bluum's model is a little different in that subscribers receive samples of different mom-tested products to try out which they can later purchase from the bluum store. A year of bluum boxes is $9/month or a little more for 1 or 3-month subscriptions.
We'll be interested to see if these services take off. There is something fun about receiving packages in the mail.

I love birchbox.com (same idea but for beauty products) and I often give it to pregnant friends. I love this idea with baby products!
This is one of those things that I would LOVE if it was given to me as a gift, but I couldn't bring myself to spend the money myself. If it's not a necessity, I can't afford it at the moment!
I am pretty sure that everything above is available at your average big box or baby superstore. THat doesn't equal "curated" that equals "somone walked through the aisles at Babies R Us."
A curated selction could be interested if there was one really perfect thing each month like a a lovely cardigan for fall or a thoughtful toy.
I am a Citrus Lane subscriber and I love it. It gives me a chance to try products that I might not try otherwise. Some of the products I have wanted to but could not find at my local baby stores. I also like it because each month has a theme and includes tips about that theme.
Just signed up for bluum! Used bluumbaby promo code for $8 off the year subscription. :D
Citrus Lane sounds like fun, but it may just be too expensive for me... is it worth it?
Did someone know if this type of subscription service exist in Europe?
