Southern decorator Phoebe Howard mixes traditional pieces with modern palettes. This city apartment is a good example of her restrained but comfortable approach to decorating. We love the neutral tones with hot spots of color, the rich textures (check out that kitchen tile!) and the eclectic vibe of this home...
Howard has offices in Florida and Atlanta. She also owns Max and Company stores with her husband, and she's a regular contributor to HouseBeautiful - we blogged her recommendation for the best white paint for small spaces (Benjamin Moore's pale white Horizon OC-53). Her website has lots more photos of this apartment, as well as other projects.

Awesome kitchen!
personally i'd need a bit more color, but this really is lovely
I like it all- it is jsut beautiful. And the "junk" in the jars that someone commented on is something special to this home ower so it is not junk at all. I think it is interesting and creative!
looks like the 'junk' in the jars is a matchstick box collection - which I think is kind of cute.
am looking for stainless steel floating shelves to hold my own 'junk' - anyone know where to find them?
Love the color-coordinated books. I wish I had the spare time and motivation to rearrange my shelves that way.
"If you throw out the junk in the jars and the uncomforable nonsensical "bar" at the window (what's wrong with having one's feet on the ground?), I might consider moving in."
Then I guess it's a good thing that those objects are there, since the homeowner probably would prefer to keep the place for themselves...
Thanks for showing us more elegant and traditional spaces, AT!
(A bit off-topic, but thank you, AT, for listening to readers and implementing a change to the images in posts! It's much better like this, with just the images reloading instead of the whole page. Cheers!)
Everyone has their collections of trinkets, I think that is a nice way of displaying them!
Bromelia- Not everyone has an aversion to swinging feet.
Great job: it's a really lovely space.
What is so nonsensical and..... jeez. 8^/
Where did she find the stainless steel freehanging shelves in the kitchen. They resemble Ikea "Lack" shelves, but those don't come in stainless.
This really hits that "subdued comfort" note for me. If I'd seen this when I was still in an older home, it would have been a huge inspiration.
*sigh* i want to visit.
Sorry, but that matchbook collection is a complete waste of space.
I'm pretty sure most (if not all?) collections would be considered a complete waste of space. Obviously it was more important for them to show off something they enjoy to collect than it was to shelve more glassware.
This space is beautiful! Such a serene, mature space, that doesn't feel too too mature.

And someone else's Pez dispenser collection/shoe-fetish closet/$300 doggy bed/3-car garage isn't???
yes john H, i am inquiring of the same thing you are in regards to her Lack looking floating shelves. read my comment above - anyone know where to find them??
I think she might have gotten them from kitchensource.com. If you like this, you should see her website. It's amazing!! phoebehoward.net
