[Good friend, Heather, keeps a small globe in her family room to remind her of places she has been and where she'd like to visit next.]
When we are visiting our friend's homes or have been invited to a new home, we enjoy looking around and spotting personal objects + decor blended into the home decor. It's a nice opportunity to see a bit of the person's personality and interests. One of our favorite things to spot is...

...city-inspired decor! Whether it's an accent, like this mini Eiffel tower in ATLA Flickr member paolo+titi's space, a gallery of pictures from a European trip or a hand-made blanket from an exotic locale, city-inspired objects can create an intimate vibe and a wonderful conversation starter. As the homeowner, placing city-style decor in your space will remind you of a great trip you took or a place you want to visit one day.

I also like to see prints, whether Ork prints or vintage travel posters, in people's homes, just to see where they're from or have been, or what places inspire them.
My home features framed repro Paris nightclub posters, a silver Eiffel Tower candle, and several small copies of Notre Dame gargoyles.
Guess what my favorite city is :)
Can anyone tell me where I can find a paperweight (?) exactly like the one on the first image? I have always loved those yellow glass bubble spheres and the light they cast on the surfaces you place them. I obviously don't know what to look for... Keywords or online seller, anyone?
For brenton--paperweight looks like it's from ikea (makta, $4.99). Here's the link: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90065662
brenton, really nice glass paperweights from caithness glass.

I have some gorgeous ones from there. A little more expensive than Ikea though.
I have a repro Checkpoint Charlie sign over my front door. It says "You are now leaving the American Sector" in four languages. Since we're an American expat family, it seemed fitting.
Thanks so much, you two!
