This January, I am ditching the dreary London weather and living with my parents in Southern California. Instead of performing the January Cure on my own home, I am enforcing it on my parent’s home to help them get 2015 started off right.
Flowers and Floors
The weekend floor cleaning was much needed after the Christmas tree removal and loads of houseguests and animals running around over the holidays. As they have all wood floors, after vacuuming up dust and tree needles, I happen to love using Method Squirt & Mop Wood Floor cleaner for a deeper clean.
The Project List
Only coming home every couple of months makes it easy for me to spot projects with a fresh pair of eyes. I highly recommend having a good friend or family member—who will be honest and constructive—to come in and help if you struggle to find projects to tackle. After going over the list, the three below are the ones that can be easily tackled in January for the Cure:
- Organizing my father's office
- Cleaning out my sister's closet
- Organizing bookshelves in the living room
Set up the Clutter Collector
I think every home should have an outbox year round to help reduce clutter. Even after moving fairly recently the build up of unnecessary items is inevitable in the consumer culture that our society feeds on.
Purging the pantry begins today which is a great thing to do in January when random holiday sweets and leftovers might be forgotten about until they have perished. Check out my attempt at pantry organization and more kitchen work in next week's post.
