After seeing the movie Moonrise Kingdom over the weekend, I was lusting after the retro set design from the 1960's. The idea of my dream kitchen is constantly evolving, but at the moment I would love to create a retro kitchen featuring all of the modern kitchen technologies that we have grown accustomed to.

I wish they would make reproductions of those stoves, I really love them but will never own one at those prices!
LOVE!!!
It looks like our kitchen but we went with steel cabinets and a stainless steel backspash - very retro! What are you thinking for flooring?
And a very similar pull can be bought at Walmart for $160.
I had one of those stoves in my apartment in LA. It wasn't restored--it was just still working! You can find them on craigslist in working order if you're willing to look.
We still have an old fridge like that at my Grandma's house. It has the working handles and rounded shelves that pivot so you can turn them out. It's pretty amazing.
Laughing...I had an original (that is to say, unrestored and in the same location it was in when new) O'Keefe and Merit stove in my home in the 1990s. Couldn't wait to get rid of it.
There's a lot to be said for self-cleaning ovens.
I am surprised at the low price of that birch slab.
It is my dream to own a Big Chill fridge some day.
Bill Chill also makes retro-style stoves: http://bigchill.com/site/stoves
I only clicked on this post because of the drool worthy appliances. I dislike stainless steel and everything else lacks soul, but these however....are...to...die...forrrr.
We love our Wedgewood....

They're still around, and definitely worth tracking down.
The butcher block slabs at IKEA are an amazing value. Builders in our area snatch them up so they're a little tricky to find in stock but well worth the effort.
Retro is gaining momentum especially in the home. The kitchen is the center piece of the home which is a great place to start if you are wanting to add a retro/vintage flavour. If you'd only change your fridge, like the one pictured here, to a retro one like this, you'd instantly change the mood of your kitchen from an ordinary everyday one, to a retro one by around 40%.This is because the fridge is the most centered piece in the kitchen. You'd be most surprised how little it takes to retro-fy you kitchen and home in a few simple steps. Retro/art deco kitchens don't date easily, and is now quite in-vogue.
