- What I Love About My Small Home:
- Most of all, I love coming home to a place that feels completely like me. I can read design blogs all day and feel like there is always something that I need to change about my apartment to make it more organized/hip/whatever, but coming home and seeing all of these things that I love -- thrift store finds, family hand-me-downs, treasures from my travels -- takes away all of my apartment envy and makes me appreciate my unique space so much more.
Also, I rent and and cannot stress enough how important it is to have a great landlord!
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- Actually, this is the most space I've ever lived in by myself! However, I do still struggle with storage space for books and work with nontraditional solutions -- like installing shelves over my door frames -- to avoid cramming more bookcases together.

The rug in front of picture #2 is different than the rug in picture #3 so I'm lost. Do you have 2 sofa's back to back? The chairs are different too.
Other than that, nice place. I think the mirror over your bed is pretty but we would not do something like that in California since things can get 'shaken' up out here.
Sorry, I should have looked at your lay-out before commenting. I GET IT NOW! DUH!
Yay, Claire! So proud of you and your gorgeous, cozy apartment!
I would have used the bedroom "sitting room" as a giant walk in closet. Drool
Lovely space, and the happy face on your layout put me over the edge - nicely done!
My 'like' doesn't stick..still 0 Your apartment is a favorite of mine...I like the feel and fun of it..very chic and personal..you've set your living room very prettily and functionally..the grey paint is gorgeous..and you have 'cool' stuff...That's a very handy little 'creepy door' I've seen them before, so I wasn't afraid..ha............
Ack! I can't favorite it either. Can we fix the glitch, guys?
I can't favorite it either. Please fix it.
Echoing @Rachele, I really don't think 940sf counts as small. I'd call that pretty spacious for one person.
Ooh, I love the little sitting room you have off the bedroom. That's a fun little "extra" space. Plus it has a piano in it, so I dig that. ;) (We pianists gotta have space for our jam sessions, right!)
I am head over heels in love with this floorplan! I love the galley style and the sitting room in the bedroom. Gorgeous!
love the space...for those comments about 'not small enough'...it fits the category 800' - 1000' perfectly. want to vote, but my vote doesn't stick either - aack!
the like button is fixed...i'm number '1' ; )
This is my favourite small entry by far. The little door in the bedroom is so cute! What is that?
The place is HUGE for just a one-bedder too.
Where is your front door?
I think it's adorable! I love the coziness of this place- the kitchen, the floors and all of the windows. I really like that sitting area by the bedroom. The little door doesn't creep me out at all! And in Texas, we would never worry about putting mirrors over beds- no shakes here at all. Very sweet place.
940 sf is not small!
Best apartment I have ever seen in my life. I love the plants in the kitchen window.
Lovely! And what a fabulous layout!
have I seen that lemon before?
Thank you for your nice comments! 940 sf is the largest apartment I've lived in alone before, but in the area that I live, it's not uncommon to see a 1 BR this size.
You have seen that lemon before! I love using AT as an inspiration for my apartment, so after seeing the lemon in this tour (http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/kyle-erins-one-153669), I decided to immortalize my own odd fascination with Meyer lemons.
That mini-door in the bedroom actually just opens up to pipes. I wish it were a more interesting story! But I do love that it looks like the entrance to a hobbit hole.
And my front door is to the left of the white couch in my living room. There's also a back door in the sunroom. Sorry for lack of labeling!
I like your kitchen!
What a talent you have Claire! Love it all the muches!
Only in Texas is 940 a small amount of space for one person. You lucky girl. Like some of your pieces and the gray is a good starting point but it's hard to get a clear concept of the apartment from the photos.
Really good mix of contemporary and classic. Nice colors, airy and well lit.
Don't like metal bedframes. Decent decor of the kitchen given its a basic rental house kitchen.
I can assume correctly that you added the shelf under the window in the kitchen area. For me, that really makes the kitchen. The light from the window hi-liting the plants is cozy. You gave me an idea for my own window. Have you considered adding such as frosted glass appearance to the top section of the window? .
Go Claire... your place is awesome and the pictures don't do it justice!
I love it! Thanks for telling me about this website!
