I've always loved Washington, DC-based designer Darryl Carter's style. His book The New Traditional is one of my go-to decorating books for inspiration. Happily, this breed of "New Traditional" decor has been cropping up beyond Carter's personal reach.
The rooms shown here all capture some of the essences of Carter's style: Lots of antiques, including rich-hued wood case pieces and coffee tables paired with chairs and sofas with gracious curves and muted upholstery. And, like Carter's rooms, many of these rooms play with vertical scale in a dramatic way (large statues or figures, for example, or boldly tall coffee tables). Finally, these rooms share Carter's sense of calm and subdued beauty; elegant yet unfussy.

So refreshing to see a room and not instantly know which store every piece of furniture came from.
Love, love, love these rooms. Classical taste really does stand the test of time.
Beautiful, lots of inspiration to be found, definitely bookmarking this post.
what is the flat seating/ottoman called in pic 5 and 7? I need something like this but don't know what it is called. Any ideas?

This is really strong work.
Classy, but that kitchen seating--beautiful as it is--looks really uncomfortable, better for keeping awake during a boring sermon than eating brekkie.
These rooms are very beautiful... but I'm not seeing anything that makes the rooms special. I wouldn't mind having similarly styled pieces to ground my rooms though!
beauty!!!
soo bright
AT, thank you for finally mentioning Darryl Carter!
