Ward Elementary in Winston-Salem, North Carolina has a classroom filled with exercise bikes instead of desks. Started five years ago, the Read and Ride program encourages kids to pedal while they read. There aren't only health benefits to this—they learn more, too. Kids who spent the most time on the bikes had 83% reading proficiency, whereas those who spent the least only had 41%.
