Every host knows that high-adrenaline hour between preparing for your soiree and the arrival of the guests. You sit down, you stand up, you straighten the kitchen, you dust a shelf: in other words, you prepare for the moment that you can just relax and have fun at your party, rather than stress about the perfection and cleanliness of your space.
Having a playlist to psyche yourself up, calm nerves and remind us that parties are about having fun is important! Make sure everything is in its place, sit down, relax, have a cocktail and get ready to enjoy your friends and your home, with these tunes! Feel free to add your own to raise your spirits and get festive!

I usually start off my actual party playlist with songs that I'd like to listen to while preparing. If you don't have to run and switch your playlist when guests start arriving, it's one less thing to do when you're busy.
Of course this doesn't work if you just put your playlist on shuffle, but that's less fun than crafting the order of your playlist anyway :)
You should make the playlist in spotify and post the link so that we don't have to go to the trouble of doing it ourselves.
+1 for Spotify playlist requests.
I love when blogs post their own take on audio indulgence, but prefer it when it's in a loadable playlist (such as a Spotify list) I can just click on and start jamming to. :)
Buddy Miles...Allman Brothers
...and back in the day---a shot of tequila.
I'm probably older than a lot of posters here.
Spotify links is a GREAT idea!
I was lucky enough to inherit my grandparent's 45s out of their old jukebox. It's filled with the greats; Peggy Lee, Frank, Dean, Sammy, Big Band etc. I love it for dinner music.

Just run any of blalocks indie playlists, amazing! Run them straight through your party...
What is a party playlist without Party Hard - Andrew W.K.?
@Torontian: Yay, thanks for your suggestion! I can't leave my iTunes on shuffle because too many embarrassing things pop up, so I'm excited to download these playlists for my next party.
Ace of Base usually gets me in the cleaning mood. :-)
I just made this playlist into a Spotify playlist if anyone wants it.
