I use my dining room table as a desk most of the time. But come fridays I like to make a point of cleaning off all of the piles of papers, old coffee mugs and just stuff that has accumulated over the week to have a fresh start for the weekend: It only takes a couple of minutes to put everything away, quickly doublecheck which papers need to be organized, which ones I can just get rid of right away and which ones I can quickly take care of (if it takes 2 minutes or less I do it right away). Then I wipe the whole things down with Mrs. Meyers Lavender Counter Spray. I never realize how dirty it's gotten, but with a kitty that likes to 'help' me work, it definitely gets dirty. Once the table is cleaned off, I like to light that candle (it's from Kelly Laplante and it's amazing). Just this simple act helps to transition from the workweek to the weekend. Now the table is clear for dinners, for magazine reading, for saturday breakfast and for internet time that isn't 'working'. It's a visual reminder that it's liesure time. And when I take care of it every week, it never gets out of control. Do you have a ritual for relaxing into the weekend?
