As I child, I remember dress up clothes as integral to my imaginative play. We had a big tub of them, which wasn't very organized and led to some torn and tattered pieces. Jess over at Craftiness Is Not Optional designed her own DIY solution that's as cute as it is clever. And easy!
With just some plywood, screws, a dowel and paint, Jess and her husband created this sweet accessory that features hangers, hooks and a large storage bin. It's compact enough to fit in a tight space, and all your dress up clothes will be organized and tidy.
Check out the specs and some instructions on Jess's blog, Craftiness Is Not Optional.

Commercial Flour Sa...
Love love love it.
Cute!
super idea!!!
Usually I'm plenty happy with our average sized home (who wants to pick up after kids in a huge house?) but stuff like this makes me wish I had a huge play room to set up all kinds of zones: imaginative play, reading nook, art, writing, trains... I could go on and on. Thanks for the great inspiration.
Very cute!! I really like how you could move this from room to room if you re-arrange. Another idea- hooks on the wall. check it out:

Amazed because honestly I'm exhausted at the idea of hanging my 3 kids' massive quantities of regular laundry- I can't imagine wanting to hang their "dress up".
Cute theory but I am willing to bet that after a day or so, the real story is: a row of empty pink hangers and all of the clothes, crowns, shoes, etc. shoved down at the bottom anyhow.
I'm with you, abbygraykit. I have three girls and I'd probably have to be checked in to the psych ward if I started trying to hang up my daughters' dress-up clothes.
Like AlexisAnne-CleanSmartSimp says hooks might work better. Instead of a rail perhaps put a plank of wood and then add hooks or funky draw handles on both sides. Maybe more likely to hang the dress ups on them then wrangling with coat hangers - which would probably end up scattered around the place! Saw some gorgeous draw handles the other day wondered what could do with them this perhaps could be the answer. All the other bits can just be plopped in the box at the bottom...... in theory! :)
I have twin 4 year olds whose favorite pastime is to change costumes on an hourly basis. Needless to say we have LOTS of costumes. I like the catch-all bin underneath for shoes and hats, but hangers are impractical, I agree. I'm working on a system with lots of hooks, but still need to figure out how to store the purses, scarves and swords :-)
I love it. I have two girls and a wardrobe full of dress ups. I don't mind hanging them. My girls have a stool so they can get them down by themselves. Eventually they will be able to hang them too.
Hey everyone!
I just wanted to thank Oh Dee Doh for the feature! And to answer or address the issue of hanging the clothes up. We are starting to get a large collection of clothes, but so far, my daughter enjoys hanging her dresses back up-and it's good for them to clean up after themselves anyways. So, it's not a big deal for us-though at the end of the day, it is a row of empty hangers-as someone said here. lol!
Hope this helps!
Jessica
