If you have high ceilings, here's a nice way to show off some great objets d'art or books. Install shelves about 12 inches from the ceiling and then paint them the same color as the wall. Charles of Charles Perfect Garden Apartment fame, used his below ceiling shelves to exhibit some exotic bowls and antique planers.

All I can saw is wow!!!
This looks great! I have been wanting to do this in my hallway but wanted a visual before I commited. I have molding, but I think it would like fine.
Like the idea but could be a little weightier (is that a word?). Looks like cheap painted MDF.
It's nice (and useful) but how about dust? It seems to me that those shelves would gather quite a bit, and it's not exactly easy to climb up on a step ladder to dust the ceiling (especially if they are high).
Looks nice though.
My parents are big fans of below-the-ceiling shelves. You just have to get your Swiffer duster up there regularly. (If you live in a high-dust city, this could drive you crazy, though. They don't.)
A feather duster would work too, as long as the shelves are not too cluttered. I like this idea a lot.
We did this in our house with white Ikea LACK shelves, set end to end. Measure well.
