This is only for the die-hard small kitchen owners. Jack of Jack's Really Small Home house tour used this as his dining area! For others with not such severe space constraints, the cutting board big enough to bridge the sink is a great way to add precious waist level surface area to one's kitchen and one's life.

But where, oh where, can I find a cutting board long enough to cross the sink like that? I've been looking for over a year!
Ikea. It's not as nice as Nate's but it works. It's meant to fit into one of their sinks but we just place it over ours and it works great. Agreed that it provides desperately needed counter space. (And you can brush stuff right off into a trash bowl, a la Rachel Ray, who, for as much as she is reviled, has some good ideas.)
