Bri and Chad's apartment is really really small. So, even though they liked the idea of a headboard, they didn't want to sacrifice even an inch of their bedroom.
The solution was to photocopy and enlarge an image of a Biedermeier design. Once they cut it out, however, they decided it looked much better as a plain silouette. So they flipped it over and glued the backside on the wall. Simple, elegant, great!

So it is paper? How long has it been up there and stayed put without curling or tearing?
I love it! I also LOVED that apartment in last year's contest--who can forget the post-it wall!?
I think they should... paint that part of the wall white, and then... take that paper cut-out and put some low-stick adhesive on the back of it and use it as a reverse stencil and paint those stripes back on top of it.
OR... trace it onto a huger piece and then cut that part out and use it as a stencil.
Because it's just too lovely to leave it to chance and the ravages of time, to which paper will eventually succumb.
Another way to preserve the image would be to have a vinyl sign shop use it as a pattern. A replica in a thick vinyl will last longer, be easy to clean with a sponge, and be portable if they decide to move.

Hey, thanks for posting this, Jill. I was doing my daily AT read, and had a pleasant surprise!
robyn: We put it up last June and really haven't had any problems. It's just up with gluestick, which works surprisingly well. The paper is great for us, and if we ever want to take it down or change it up, it'll be super-easy. It's on one large piece of really heavy stock, so that's probably what has kept it in good shape.
Laura: We sort of have a thing for putting paper on the walls. It's a sickness, really. Thanks for remembering.
Curtis: We'll probably be moving in a couple years, so the headboard is a third of the way there. It still looks as good as when we put it up last year. Also, we like that it's easy to change.
Lisa: Hey! I do still check your blog from time to time...You posted a couch I've been coveting not too long ago. :) Jill came by and took some pictures a while back, so they might surface at some point.
Bri, thanks for weighing in. I was thinking that paper is great precisely because it's cheap and disposable, so if you get tired of the headboard it's really easy to toss it and put in something new.
