Those chairs/benches look unbeleivably uncomfortable. To me, they just contribute to the space looking random and unfinished; funky in a MyFirstApartment(tm) kind of way.
I would have liked to see some cushions on them, and I don't know if there are kids present but if so, I 'd have rounded off those edges a bit.
I love the way your bookshelves look though, we're evidently soulmates when it comes to have plenty of reading matter around!
