Rob Schleifer lives in a fifth-floor Manhattan walk-up that's been in his family since 1947. What makes this space particularly interesting is Rob's penchant for rusticating all of his belongings to embrace a pioneer aesthetic. The New York Times brings a new interactive panoramic image of Rob's truly unique kitchen and living room.

This snippet of another life is both awesome and incredibly disturbing. I'm not sure how to feel.... hmmmm.....
Quirky is correct... Interesting.
I thought the 'rustic' microwave and 'Rose Bud' took the prize until it got to the PC and dvd player...
The ditubing may have come from the seemingly vast array of knives, medusa...
Really interesting. How did he get his computer to look like that? This is a bit over the top for me, but it is cool. I really like the pioneer aesthetic, but it would be too cluttered and dark for me to live with personally. I think someone could take this inspiration and create a more livable, sparser version, and that might even be more historically accurate. Pioneers didn't have a whole lot of stuff.
I love a well patinated object, but I don't like this as nothing's been allowed to accrete an authentic patina. All that brown rusty stuff smeared liberally over everything just looks filthy.
Wow, this is more like a museum artpiece than a home. Each to his own!
This dude's nuts. But not in the dangerous way.
Creepy. Too much stuff, seems like it would be hard to maintain the look of having a clean place.
Interesting. Kinda fab. Makes it much easier to clean when you can't tell the difference :)
A person who truly beats to a different drummer. It's orderly in its own way. Interesting.
Aesthetically I love it -- especially the electronics disguises (I've always hated having to look at fax machines, computers etc.....)
Practically speaking (as one who knows and loves those "things") I would HATE the dusting & cobweb hunting.....
Holy Smokes! Totally not my style, but it works for him. Do not envy the packing process for him, though! Or the work its going to take once he leaves to get back to normal.
what a cozy place.
Yes, it's really fascinating! A witty combination of genuinely old and forcefully antiqued -- that jug of Platte Valley Bourbon blends right in, too. I wonder what friends / dates think when Rob brings them to his place.
