No matter who you vote for this year, they won't be able to move into THIS house. Unless, of course, they are 2" tall. In honor of tomorrow's primaries in Texas and Ohio, we're featuring this labor of love from John and Jan Zweifel: The White House in Miniature.
[ Photo from NBM.org ]
The Zweifels and a group of close friends and family spent more than 500,000 hours building this 50 foot replica of the White House (one foot per inch). For the record, every single piece of furniture is hand carved, every rug hand stitched, and yes, every wall is hand painted. And it took 38 years!
But they're not quite over yet. You see, the Zweifels actually keep up with the trends of the White House decor and update the model to reflect the changes made during each administration. Talk about committing to a vision! Now, if Hillary Clinton moves into the White House, do you think she'll hang a sign with this slogan on it in the Oval Office?

this is so cool...wende? did you see this??
Wende and SCB need to bond over this.
oh. my. god. i don't know whether to cry at how much of their lives they've 'wasted' doing this (too harsh a word, i know) or to slap them on their backs in congratulations for their brilliant project! they just either sell this to a museum for big bucks or charge folks to see it!
My first thought was SCB!
This is the sort of project that I'm impressed with, but not really into, since it's done with a completely straight face, and I can never let go of my irony. If I were going to embark on a White House scene, you know I'd have Bill Clinton posed mid-scandal or the current Prez reading The Hungry Caterpillar upside down, or something equivalently dire. (I'm equal opportunity for irony.)
i love miniatures!
