I knew I wanted Coco's nursery to feel airy and bright, so I began by introducing elements in buttery yellows and marigolds (a lamp, a pillow, a mobile). Then I happened upon the bedding at Anthropologie (on clearance and a bargain!) and knew I absolutely had to work it in.
Tip for Using Color:
I found that starting with a foundation of neutrals (furniture, rug, walls) made it really easy to layer on color without it getting crazy or overwhelming. To keep things cohesive I tried to limit the color to the warm reds, yellows and bits of olive in the bedding (but I couldn't resist adding a few touches of my all time favorite color, robin's egg, here and there). In addition to having a backdrop of neutrals, working in small hits of "dirtier" colors (like olive and burnt orange) kept the rest of the palette from feeling too primary and expected.
marigold, red, burnt orange, robin's egg, olive green
