Scott's home was a big hit in his House Tour: Scott's Airy Simplicity and we loyally follow his blog Domicidal Maniac. This week, Scott blogged about collecting antique table lighters — a surprising collection we hadn't considered.
Inspired by classic movies, Scott admired the chic table lighters used as a favored prop. See Scott's full post on table lighters. See more of Scott's home and collections in his house tour Scott's Airy Simplicity.

these are cool...I remember seeing these as a kid. There are some cool vintage ashtrays out there too...but how can you display without people thinking it's okay to smoke?
I started collecting lighters, as well. Not as high end as Scott's, but I enjoy them. I have 3 so far. They remind me of a 'classier' time - when it was very cool to smoke and drink high balls...
I think the fun thing about these is that they make a mundane task so glamorous. I have an antique cigarette lighter for lighting tea lights and it just feels more special than the standard Aim 'n' Flame. Somebody needs to come up with glamorous tabletop accessories for something other than smoking and cocktails, though!
Yeah, I like vintage ashtrays too, but yeah, there is the risk of making the habit of smoking more appealing to others. I remember seeing a really neat Yoshitomo Nara ashtray that had "Smoking Kills" inscribed on it. But I think there was a "wink, wink" element to it, of course.
I predict with the rise of the "stiletto stoners" everyone's blogging about, combined with the sexiness of Mad-Men style smoking in a cigarette-unfriendly age, we'll start to see swanky, houndstooth-lined head shops with vintage lighters, ashtrays, and long cigarette holders adapted to hold roach clips.
Well, I'm -hoping- anyway.
That's a great collection. I particularly like the egg-shaped one. It's soooo amazing!!!
