Let's be honest, a monochromatic color scheme is hard to pull off. Having only one color represented in a room can be a little overwhelming to say the least. However, most of these rooms work well due to the use of mixing in different shades.
On the other hand, the "less is more" motto never seems to fail us. What are your thoughts on a monochromatic color statement? Is it a "do" or a "don't"?

Ashley - I honestly don't understand why you state that a monochromatic color scheme is difficult to pull off - It's by far the easiest decorative method as there's nothing to coordinate.
Much as I like orange.. "cheez-whiz" isn't a colour I'd use to decorate with :(
Most of these are pretty awful and not very livable for me. That green living room just makes me cringe.
You sure that pink bedroom is Nick Johnson's?
I agree that monochromatic is not easy (and some of these examples show why!)... because it's hard to make it look intentional, and not always possible to get dead-on color matches to make it look not accidental. Plus, you have to work to find the same colors in different textures and finishes to keep it from falling flat.
Oh, I recognize that black and yellow room from Colin and Justin's Home Heist. Gorgeous, although I thought the raw wood room dividers were a little over the top, even for them.
That green living room hurts my eyes.
I la la loooove the farmhouse-y kitchen, although I wouldn't call it monochromatic at all just because the apple matches the island. beautiful. the other rooms make my face hurt.
Umm, I'm pretty sure that "white" and "black" are also colors. So only a couple of these shots are actually of monochromatic rooms.
is it tacky day at AT? first the bathrooms and then this......
Hey, some of those bathrooms were better than these..
I think somebody forgot to close the italics tag after "Going Monochromatic" in the post title...it's making everything else on the page go italic on my end.
I'm a huge fan of green in rooms - HUGE fan; my whole apartment has green walls - but these green rooms do not work for me at all.
Cactus in the bathroom! I sure hope nobody slips when they're coming out of their green tub. . . Ouch!
I love orange, but that first picture is a little too much for me. The worst offender to my eyes has to be the green living room.
I like the green room. I'm digging having one or two "pop" colors and then using neutrals for everything else personally.main

I think the green bathroom is pretty awesome. The rest I could have lived without seeing.
Hey I recognize that orange room-it's from Colin and Justin's Home Heist on HGTV.
"Ashley - I honestly don't understand why you state that a monochromatic color scheme is difficult to pull off - It's by far the easiest decorative method as there's nothing to coordinate."
I agree. This is why my living room is all green. :| Seriously. Most furnishing was purchased five years ago, and I'm due for an update and an upgrade.
I think these rooms are really nice!I agree with the above comments stating that the green LR would be hard to live in, though, and am surprised no one has commented on the pepto bismal bedroom. EEK!
Other than those two, though, I love them! I never thought I'd love a room using orange like that, but somehow they pull it off in a really hip, playful way. And the green bedroom is tres romantique!
I've seen much, much better examples of monochromatic color schemes than these awful rooms. It's kind of a disservice to the idea, dontcha think? Or a warning, maybe.
Actually, I think the writer makes a legitimate point about monochromatic color schemes, which can result in boring or in a caricature of good design.
Just because you're dealing with one color doesn't guarantee a success.
the green room makes me feel sick when i look at it
I really like the green living room. Very crisp.
i really like most of these. our living room/family room looks similar to the third one- shades of grey and blues
someof them would be too much for me...save for that green clawfoot...it. is. awesome.
Most of these examples are pretty hideous. I like the kitchen, but its pretty normal looking. The pink is okay if you love pink that much (I dont). The green ones are huge fails, and thats my favorite color too. Pretty much validates my fear that too many things in too many shades of your favorite color in one room will be a tacky hodge podge.
