There's something about royal blue that's sexy, powerful, and even profound — all at once. It's deep, it's dark, it's the color of the night sky…
Officially described by Merriam Webster as "a vivid purplish blue," it's...well...royal. The King of rock n' roll was a fan.
Although it may not be the signature color of real kings and queens (that honor usually goes to purple), it IS the color of distinguished old-school design — from Royal Copenhagen china to a Ming Dynasty vase.
Here are a few inspiring ways we've seen it used at home (and on the occasional sixties redhead vixen):
- Christina Hendricks as Joan Holloway on AMC's Mad Men
- Notting Hill Home by Ilse Crawford
- Dave's Lakeview Redux
- Annie and Paul Build a Home in Sync
- Justin & Katie's Just Enough Color Jive
- Ken's Mixed Media Dream House
- Isabella and Jay Take on Inwood
- Pepe's Blue Space
- Zooey Deschanel's Blue Studio
- Royal Copenhagen China

I wonder how long it took to compile this... And what is the point?... So going over a few recent and not so recent posts that have the royal blue somewhere in the decor, pulling some pics, putting them together and calling it a post — is that what it takes to become an AT writer?...
i think graphist needs a hug
I love the royal blue carpet and walls in pic #2...really makes the brass nailheads pop on those chairs.
goofybuddha - A hug? I was thinking more along the lines of a laxative.
Picture 2 seems a bit TOO much of a good thing - -that much intense dark color seems opressive to me. (But I do love royal blue in slightly smaller doses!)
it would be nice if I could see any of the pictures...giant ad right on top of them :(

Try refreshing the page - I was having the same problem, but every time I refresh the page it fixes itself. I'm using safari, might not work if your using a different browser :)
@I Love Upstate ... LOL
@goofybuddha ... a hug is always welcome... :)
Royal blue, sexy? It screams "my first dorm room" to me. Ugh.
Psst, some of your pics have navy or china blue, NOT royal blue. Navy is absolutely more sophisticated.
In fact, the royal blue only looks good in the first pic because it's the contrast to the red/copper. In other words, it's a foil.
I guess so, Graphist. Also, note, the sole positive comment comes from the spammer. I guess that should have been the first clue.
Huh, won't AT's legitimate advertisers feel miffed that spammers are improving their PageRank on AT for free?!?
Just wondering.
