Choosing the color scheme or color combinations for the home can be a lot of fun. I love all the different shades of the color pink combined with a bright yellow in the featured spaces. The bright pink chairs and yellow accent pillows in the living room (main photo) add interest in an otherwise neutral design. In Betsey Johnson's dining room, the pink and yellow create a feminine and chic design.
If you share your home with a man, you could possibly sneak in a few pink accents without him feeling like the space is taking on an overall feminine design. Also by combining the pink with a vibrant yellow, it balances out the softer tone of the pink.

Do you like the combination of pink and yellow? What variations of the colors have you used in your own home?

Shaw's Original Fir...
I like it fine, for other people's homes. Thanks for using the word feminine instead of girly!
I agree with Miami's Elaine; looks good but not in my house!
Ugh.
The combination would work better in some cases if it wasn't paired with black furniture. I'd like to see more of photo 3. Lighter hues rather than the stark neon of the other photos.
Judging by these pictures it seems that a bit of black in the mix is what really makes the yellow/pink work
@stationeryfiend - IMO, it was an attempt to create contrast, but I find it a little too severe to be comfortable. Bright colors can still be calming, but the dining room is the only one I really like because the black isn't used as much. Photo 1 uses a lot more black and then you have three severe colors. Photo 2 uses white, which is also very severe when used so much, and photo 4 is a little more calming but that magenta table (though I like it) is just taking me out of the classiness of the grey and yellow combination.
Not so hot on the colors, but that hand-stand sculpture - wow - I really love that!
I love yellow and pink, using it with dark colors can make it appear less feminine...for more on yellow and pink check out http://inspiredhue.wordpress.com/2011/06/17/balancing-yellow-pink/
Pink and yellow is not a new combination. One has seen them used together (albeit mostly pastels) over history in many elegant salons and castles. It's the vibrancy that's big now, not the use of those two colors together.
I love it. I don't think it is the black so much as the entire Hollywood Regency Aesthetic going on. Would look great with pale neutrals in a more Amy Butler Ohio MCM Beachy Cottage (what am I talking about...not sure!) kind of look.
I use this combo in my living area (and I share our home with my lovely boyfriend) and it works really well. I use those colours only as accents though (yellow cushions, pink artwork, etc); the rest of the room mainly includes: slightly off-white walls, a white leather couch, white industrial metal cabinets/lockers, warm/medium brown timber floorboards, rustic timber furniture (sideboard, dining table, Bentwood chairs). The mix is eclectic yet balanced and the pink and yellow accents help brighten up the space, giving it a fun, fresh twist. I have very positive feedbacks from all visitors regardless of genders (but I might have only very polite friends, who knows?).
Does anyone know the source of the couches in picture #1?
I'm not a big fan of pink and so it doesn't work for me. Pink and black reminds me of Good n Plenty Candy.
I don't like the combination of pink and yellow, and especially with black, because it reminds me too much of those awful candies and hypnotically brings that taste to my mouth. What were they called - jujubees? Blechh!
The third picture looks like Barbie's home when she is 70.
Now for the 1 picture!! AWESOME!! Those giant fruits are popping up everywhere!! And I just absolutely love the hand stand sculpture.
The only weird thing about it is, if you are making such a bold statement with a lifesize human sculpture in a rather graphic display of strength and agility, why is it dressed in long tight shorts??
the last image is the only one I could EVER think of in my home. They all appear quite feminine to me- but the moody black or dark grey helps some.

Well, that's Betsey Johnson in a nutshell, isn't it?
I also like the last room best, though I might steal some textiles from #2 and the striped pink chairs from #1.
My living room is pink, yellow, and green with bits of black -- can you tell I'm a big Dorothy Draper fan? It's my house, so I'm not going to apologize for how assertively feminine the look is; its boldness is part of the fun. It's not a look for everyone, though; I wouldn't try this if I had to consider the preferences of someone else as well.
If there's a danger of going twee, it might be better to avoid pink altogether.
I think its a nice idea and very creative, but not for me. I couldn't relax after a hard day's work in this room.
