What was it we were saying about gold? Despite our silver tendencies, we've found a way that we can absolutely warm up to gold: It's the combination of gold and gray.
For you fellow silver-lovers out there - does the accent of gold paired with gray to tone things down do it for you, too?

I'd be afraid those mirrors would fall on me.
LOVE the second pic - that green/gold is beautiful against the gray walls!
Just watch, next year gold will be all the rage. And yes, the gold and gray combination is quite pleasing. Thank you for sharing.
Yay! I totally agree...I accidentally discovered this when I painted a wall dark gray and inherited a gold framed mirror from my mom...I surprisingly LOVE the way it looks together!
Gorgeous and classic. Wish I could get my hands on gilt frames like those in the first picture!
Wow! I never thought I would love this combo so much! I think I now know what color scheme to make my dad's room. He's into landscape paintings in gold frames and that's sometimes hard for me to swallow, so grey and gold...yes!
I love the paint color in the bathroom there. Do you guys have a recommendation for a really successful gray paint color?
Everything looks so good with gray! I love these images. We just painted 2 rooms in our home gray...now for some gold...
MODERnestS, I painted a bedroom flat grey with Valspar's Stonewall Jackson (great name, huh?) and it turned out quite well. It was tough to find something without lavender or beige undertones, and this fit the bill. Just a nice, pale stone grey. I've since moved into a new house and will definitely be using the color again. Behr has a color called "Ashes" that appears to be quite similar, but I haven't used it yet so I can't say for sure.
"horizon gray" by benjamin moore is a very popular decorator's option. i think i might splurge on "pavillion gray" by farrow & ball.
Hmmm... my bedroom is a b&w with mostly grey walls. The woodwork is an unfortunate orangey hue- which I eventually plan to repaint white. Based on how orangey some of those golds are, maybe for now I should say it's a "gold" wood to make myself feel better lol!

what kind of flowers are those? so pretty!
'Coventry Gray' by Benjamin Moore is also quite lovely. A little more blue, but fairly neutral.
I love gray as a neutral! I currently have an accent wall in my bedroom painted "Antique Tin" by Behr Premium Plus Ultra with Primer in One in a matte finish and i am very happy with the paint and the color.
The gray and gold combo here is quite lovely.
I second the 'Coventry Gray' color. I like that it's a cool shade of gray & makes the room look airy & light.
While experimenting with grays on the wall I realized that some grays can make your room look so dull if you don't get a lot of sunlight. I think it was ones with less blue and more red/yellow.

Yes, Silver and Nickle are on their way out...
...Brass and Gold will be back in style.
Love those mirrors and which I could find a lamp like the one in the second picture.
I love this combo and have been adding golds to my grey rooms. After years of chrome I just cannot look at another piece.
I have a tall brushed metal mirror that hangs outside the bathroom, I just painted it gold and it works better with the hallway pieces. It was an old Ikea mirror I had for years now it has a new life to it.
I don't see what the big whoop is. Gold is just metallic orangey-yellow. We all know gray looks really great when paired with yellow or orange. lol It's just a more 'luxurious' incarnation... but with great luxury comes great dating, I think... So 'use sparingly' comes to mind.

If you can't find premade mirrors (there are lots of gilded mirrors on Horchow.com that are reasonably priced) that you like - you can always go to a framing store and have them cut gilded pictureframe to the size you'd like and have a glass shop install mirror for you. Some framing shops will do all this for you as well.
