Dark, dramatic and really beautiful, if you have the guts to go dark with your wall color, gray is a stylish and smart choice. It feels anything BUT neutral, yet it behaves like one, allowing your accent colors to shine. We gathered ten examples of grays on the stormier end of the spectrum from Apartment Therapy and beyond - enjoy!

I love the framed contact sheets in image #2...
I'm already tired of gray.
Funny, you use the word "stormier" and I'm reading this in the middle of a major thunderstorm. Which is exactly why I could never decorate in gray. Too ominous and depressing!
I just picked up some dark gray paint samples. I'm going to paint one wall in my study a deep gray with blue undertones. The whole room is currently a lighter gray. I'm thinking about creating a zigzag pattern on the dark gray wall similar to an example I saw here a few days ago.
These are my kind of colors - very rich.
I never find them depressing.
in the last photo, the gray walls opposite the red ones seem interesting (see mirror)... do you have a photo wherein the patterned red and solid gray meet. i'm wondering if it works and what the effect of the color combo is. :)
I painted my living/dining room area a medium dark gray (sensuous gray by SW) and i love it. I have vibrant color furnishings and accessories throughout the space and the grey balances it all just perfectly. The wall color is actually the first thing visitors compliment!
Never knew gray could be so gorgeous. Very inspiring.
Now, let's keep this up: more GROWN-UP design and less post-grad stuff, please. Thank you.
Second row, third picture now that is a beautiful grey.
Gorgeous, especially that blue seat in contrast.

Top row, last photo (with the wallpaper): Does anyone know anything about that sofa?
I don't think I'll ever get tired of grey.
I have a can of green paint I now need to ditch because I love the grays in photo #1.
Is it just me or does #7 read blue?
Preach it aychihuahua, I couldn't agree more!
second row, second picture, i love that color! I would love to use that color anywhere in my house. :-)
I can has want grey walls?
Sorry, my mouth was so full of drool I could not properly speak. This would look great in my entertainment room. Dark, and yet not brooding. Classy if done right. Some of the rooms in these pictures are outstanding.
Love. Love SOOOO much. I painted my living room/dining room and bedroom with light grey. I love those rooms so incredibly much. This makes me wish I did ONE wall at least with a really rich dark grey.
Gorgeous.
I especially love the first picture on the bottom row with the bright blue picture - so vibrant!

Ditto.
brandyjane - I did the same thing in my living room 6 months ago (though not the zigzag - just one dark gray wall with all other light gray walls) and haven't looked back - I LOVE it. it really adds depth to the room.
I used BM deep space - mostly cause I loved the name!
Hi.. Does anyone know what two grays are in this picture ?
I love the crisp white against the gray in the first photo. I could not live with gray walls but I like to see others who enjoy them making them so beautiful. I like my walls warm colors--but that's just me!
I love the wallpaper in the first row, fifth picture! I painted my tiny laundry room a deep gray - then put all my tiny bright pictures & knick knacks up - they really pop against the gray.
I just painted my living room in Behr's Elephant Skin. I love, love, love this medium dark gray!
I *love* grey, so many shades and it matches nicely with almost anything.
We just painted our dining room a medium-dark grey, over the landlords choice of peach, and it's like a whole different apartment. Really makes our blue and red artwork stand out.
