We see a lot of all-white and all neutral, washed out rooms these days. We also see a lot of bold, bright rooms awash in technicolor drama. Straddling these two extremes are rooms where color is used in small but powerful doses. In these rooms, neutral landscapes are brought to life by color choices that are sometimes counterintuitive, idiosyncratic or bold. But they work.
For those of us who are color shy, these images are a reminder that sometimes all it takes is a little experimentation. Consider that lampshade or throw or random accessory in a color you assume to be incongruous or clashing in your neutral-toned room. Something that doesn't obviously "match" or that falls outside of what you consider the room's "color scheme". You may be pleasantly surprised. Obviously, throw pillows and lamps are the go-to accessories for providing bursts of color. But artwork (images 8 and 11), a mirror (image 7), a chair (image 3) or even a bucket (image 6) can also provide the little pops of color that uplift any room.

source for the couch in the first photo, anyone???
Love it! We're working on adding more color to our house. Next up? Yellow accents in the master.
#2 is from livingetc.com
#4 is from house beautiful
i think #1 and #5 are fantastic. and i like a whole lot of color.
I love #3! It's elegant and edgy and the pink chairs make everything pop.
MUST find the sofa in the first photo! Love.
yes! source for first sofa!! anyone know? dying for a deep-seated couch like that.
#1 is perfection, IMO. Bookmarking...
Another call for that sofa!
Yeah, Where is that sofa in the first photo from?
How about the rug from the first photo?
I feel like I've seen that sofa in #1 on AT before...
surely SOMEONE here knows something about it...pretty please?
This is awesome. I'm not color shy. It's just that I'm not allowed to paint my walls in my apartment. Yes, I've thought about moving but bottom line, it's a great apartment in a great neighborhood. So why move?
Add me to the list for that sofa in #1!
The sofa in the first pic: I think it's a Josef Frank Liljevalch sofa. More info here (use google translate): http://www.svenskttenn.se/sv-se/product/0125/mobler/ma10051/soffa-liljevalch.aspx
The upholstery is totally different, of course, and this one is tufted, but I do think it's the same peice. I didn't see fabric options on the site, though. Taking into account exchange rates, this sofa will set you back about...
many, many dollars.
over $14,000 ...great.
:(
Sorry, MyAliya. It isn't what I hoped to find out, either;)
That price is a bit of a boner-killer.
felttipjr... viagra couldn't get me back up right now.
vitaformosa, I'm with you. WHERE DID THEY GET THAT SOFA! I really want that...at less than $3000....=P
I think my new mission in life is to find a version of the sofa in photo #1 that I can afford. Amazing. I don't think I've ever fallen so hard for a piece of furniture, haha.
I agree! Not to mention, it is the first piece of furniture my boyfriend and I have EVER fully agreed on.
NOOoOOoOoooOo
I NEED that sofa!!!!!!!!!!!!
Count me in on wanting that sofa. It's amazing. AT should do a post on it and cheaper versions.
i think it's so funny that everyone's in love with the same sofa (me included)!!
You people that want that sofa in the first picture must have double doors I could not get that in my place.. but I want it too. Its the kinda sofa if it fits you better not plan on ever moving. For now it will go in my sofa lust file.
The sofa is cool, yes... but what I want to know is where did the lamps in #12 come from? Those would be a PERFECT bedside solution for my nitpicky husband!
marenmj,
The lamps look very much like the Artemide lamps (from their Tolomeo series).

Scroll down to the Tolomeo Mega Wall lamp.
Unfortunately, they are pricey.
Not colour-shy at all, but as I've got an eclectic lot of art/ephemera to hang, I especially appreciate the inspiration of #3. Oh, and I'm another one who loves the ur-sofa in #1, even though it would take up fully half the space in my lounge room.
that does look like them. Definitely well out of my price range. Oh well.
Holy Hannah! Please AT, do a post on that couch and some more financially realistic versions. Funny how so many of us had such a strong, positive reaction to that glorious beast.
I know this is a little different, but here is one option for the sofa everyone (including me) is lusting after, and at $4200, its not "expensive".

The most desirable sofa on planet earth.
Well damn. Sad sofa news. I too drooled over it upon seeing it.
A $4,200 sofa is not expensive?
Thanks for posting that link askmke. That sight has a lot of great sofas.
$4200 isn't "expensive"??
