It's that time of the month again. That time when we start talking about next month's theme.
But first: color month's plumage will continue to grace the front page through tomorrow (October 31st). Voting on all the incredible entries will continue through Wednesday, November 1. We'll be announcing the judges for the finals shortly, and the contest winners will be revealed here on November 16th!
As for November, the regional blogs are all choosing their own themes. Two that we'd like to explore here are Green Design and Home Tech. We're putting the question of which one to the readers:
If you didn't get a chance to visit the blog this past weekend, check out the new entries and cast your votes: #'s 49 (Stephen), 50 (Spon and Andy), 51 (Jason and Janet), 52 (R & M), 53 (Sami), and 54 (Steph and Carrie).
And as always, share your questions (color-related or otherwise), ideas, resources, or interior accomplishments with us here by e-mailing us at sf (at) apartmenttherapy (dot) com.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Green design... so many design resources only cater to those building a new home. I would love to see other peoples green design ideas for an apartment. Our planet depends on it : )
I had originally voted for "other", but I think I'd be happy with Green Design if there was some way to address it in the context of apartment or rental living. I feel so limited by the fact that my space is only temporary. I know there's more I can do than using compact fluorescent bulbs.
please please please NOT GREEN DESIGN! Its so overdone. There is an abundance of green resources for us crunchy californians. Tech would be so much cooler.
The subject of "Green Design" is everywhere right now, and personally I don't think I could handle a whole month of it on Apartment Therapy.
I'd love to see a month (if not a contest!) of "Creative Solutions."
How are folks making the most of awkward spaces? Cramped storage? Limited natural light? Lack of architectural interest? Terrible rental kitchen cabinets? Etc.?
It would be great to see both what AT'ers themselves are doing (it's a lot of what I look for here as it is) as well as cool problem-solving products and external links.
(For what it's worth, I echo the comments about green design, too - there are already a lot of available resources, and I think I'd rather see and talk about more ideas that make me say "wow!" (or at least "huh!"))
I would love to see a month on rental-friendly, "reversible" decor. Wall treatments for when you can't paint, etc.
Home accessories/accents month. They are posted on the site often, but would love more ideas and resources and a peek into how ATers use accents to unify a room.
I voted for Home Tech, but I'd love to see a month dedicated to Rental Solutions!
Ooohh....I second the "reversible decor" or rental solutions themes. I mean, if you can dedicate a whole month to kids when not all of your readers have them, why can't you devote another month to a different theme that functions the same way?
I'd also really enjoy a month of home accessories/wall decor/decorative accents.
"reversible decor"
i go for that. i mean, i really wanted to enter the color contest b/c i use color really well, but since i'm not allowed to paint, other entries quickly outshined me. it's very hard to decorate when you can't paint, can't knock out walls, and can't even hire your own electrician for some nice lighting. you have to be creative & mobile.
if you don't use that theme for next month, i'd really like to see it sometime this year.
I'd be pleased to see Green design but Tabitha's comment is making me think otherwise, too:
How are folks making the most of awkward spaces? Cramped storage? Limited natural light? Lack of architectural interest? Terrible rental kitchen cabinets? Etc.?
Yes! Especially cramped storage! As a packrat living in a bungalow with almost no natural storage, I'd love to see what others are doing.
Green Design, with an emphasis on a BUDGET. Sure, I'd love to retrofit my house with solar panels, but is a $25K retrofit really going to be worth it in the long run?
And sure, VOC-free paints are wonderful, but how affordable are they? And what about mitigating procedures in remodels and retrofits when toxic materials are present, but complete removal is cost prohibitive.
None of the above!
Green design is just redundant. There is already a cornucopia of information available this day and age for home dwellers. It would be overkill all the way!
I second the idea about "rental solutions/ reversible design". I would love to see how folks are using innovative design and creative decorating to personalise their space. There are so many renters out there who need inspiration and ideas for their temp homes. I agree with Samantha about introducing a topic that would cater to a large group of readers (ie kids month?... it's our turn!)
I would love to see a month devoted to "personalisation" of a space using accessories and/or wall decor etc. That would be inspiring, unique, and so cool! As would "creative solutions"... some spaces are so small and humdrum these days!
AT High Command:
Please consider "Something Else" voters and their great concept ideas! These suggestions are what readers really want to see and experience! (:
how about home technology with an emphasis on green technology!!
I voted Green design (hopefully within the context of small-space living), but the idea for "reversable decor" and small or akward space solutions is killer.
While I love the blog and am a regular reader, I have noticed a surprising lack of feasable decor choices for renters... I can't paint my walls or rip out my ugly kitchen cabinets so it'd be nice to read more about what I can do to make my rental my home.
My spelling is atrocious! :)
Tis not the season for anything green or techy!
With holidays around the corner, I want feasible IDEAS!
Let's be **creative**, people!
I so agree with small space solutions. There are heaps of renters out here... please throw us a bone! We need help with stylin and storing!
I also dig the theme about *personalization*. I would love to showcase what inspires my cool crib: my stylish accents, paintings, accessories, my fav piece of furniture etc. I want to see yours!
*Lighting*
please please please!
It makes or breaks interior spaces, especially small ones. I want to see before and after case studies, good products (not just funky chandeliers but the kind of lighting that works but disappears), ways to make the most of natural lighting, how lighting interacts with colours, how to light multipurpose spaces, etc.
Lighting is a cool idea, as are all of the above. I do not like the theme options; thus, I voted 'something else'
I too like the themes presented here in the comment section too much to vote for anything else. So, it is neither of the options for me.
glad i read comments before casting a vote! all the suggestions here appeal to me more.
Rental solutions and small space ideas are the theme winners to me. Plain and clear.
Sorry. I like looking in people's homes too much to see green or technology win this vote. I prefer the aesthetic, style, beauty and artistry of a decor or interior design to any of the presented theme options.
I agree with Janet that the options are too harsh. I would like to see any of the suggestions in the comment section here be picked for November.
I really like the idea of how to personally style and maximize the space of a rental.
Adding personality to rentals is a great idea. I'd love to see how people on a limited budget gave their boring apartments some oomf!!!!
Well now, holiday festivites are nearly upon us. Tisk tisk.
Let's be bold and creative and have a theme that is enjoyable, meaningful, rich, and totally useful this coming month.
Tis another reason for the season! ;)
How about...
- how to decorate and spruce up a pad on a budget;
- stylising and maximising a small space (we yearn to live big in small places);
- being innovative and imaginative in a rental (desperately needed topic!);
- accessorising with your fav things- ie books, art, sculptures, wall pieces, decorative accents etc;
- showcasing your cozy corners, or collections;
- strategic and effective use of lighting;
- storage ideas for teenyweeny places;
- how to layout and live in a bachelor/studio;
- how to decorate with pre-loved finds turned treasures- ie junkyards, flea markets, thrift shops, garage sales etc.;
- beautifying and decorating the home for the coming holidays (perhaps a December theme...??!)
Overall, I would like to see individual taste, personality, and style shine this coming month. I want ideas from y'all (like great gift finds!) I yearn to learn from others and experience their unique and creative concepts and applications. I passionately want to see readers showcase their true home sweet homes with unbridled pride and joy. :)
Therefore, anything techy need not apply here...
How can you personalise a space, and really enhance your signature style with green design or home technology? That is so desperately monotonous. The choices lack intimacy, personality, and a sense of what makes a home your home. There is no warmth or sense of invitation with these cold, lackluster themes. We need flavour. I like all the suggestions enthusiastically put forth by your devoted followers. Let next month be lively, spirited, practical, and really interesting!
My two cents:
Not everyone is able to appreciate green design or home technology. Not relevant and meaningful to everyone - kinda bias in a way to most of your readers who can not afford lots of techy stuff and are already kermit the frog green from self-education and research (earth-friendly info is everywhere nowadays -- but not always practical). So, choose a theme appreciated by the ~majority~ of readers. Peruse the above. Your readers really are a smart bunch of folks and are trying to tell y'all what to do.
I'm with all of the non-green votes. Renters heen help including small space solutions.
Rental soulutions with a focus on affordable
lighting (most of us lack overhead, I bet)
color without painting
storage
I love Lynn's list in the other comment section. Check it out.
I am contemplating all the smart theme options.
Enie Meanie Minie Mo...
Hmmmmmm
yes, yes, YES rental solutions.
Please ohpleaseohpleaseohplease--rental considerations and solutions on how to deal with small/difficult spaces!!
reversible decor!!! puh-lease!
