Yesterday, we posted a quiz all about color. As we all know, the names and trend stories that paint companies come up with to describe the palettes and trends each year are definitely evocative. But, we wondered, if you mix up the colors from the text, how easy is it to match them back up? A bunch of you already played along - if you want to guess first, visit the quiz right here, and if you are ready for the answer, jump below…

D. Restless Nomad: sultry, exotic, primal. Thanks to the Internet, everyone now has a passport to wander the world, soaking up its flavors, images and colors, and stirring them into an eclectic global design stew.

B: Purely Refined: elegant, tailored, understated. True luxury doesn't shout its presence with glitz, glamour and bling. It whispers, revealing its pedigree through clean, classic lines, exquisite tailoring and handcrafted heirloom quality.

A. Gentle Medley: fresh, airy, innocent. Hard times call for soft colors.

C. Bold Invention: experimental, artsy, expressive. The city never sleeps. Neither do its colors.
From a quick review of the answers posted yesterday, both the Sherwin Williams copywriters and the Apartment Therapy design minds are VERY good - lots of correct sequences posted.
Did you guess 1D, 2B, 3A, 4C?

Yes, but I only guessed 4 as C by a process of elimination. I live in NYC, and those colors did not scream "city" to me, though as one reader put it, they were very Miami/LA.
i had (1) and (4) mixed up.
I got them right, but I live in LA and still don't think 4C is very city-y! To me, it's more nautical than urban - like the Hamptons or Cape Cod.
Woo hoo! Perfect score! I feel guilty and excited at the same time...hehe
Like rouquinne I had 1 and 4 vice-versa...
Too easy. I got these right--the key was process of elimination. Like, Gentle Medley could've been either 2 or 3 (both have "airy" "soft" colors), but Purely Refined had to be 2 rather than 3 because of all the talk about whispering and being understated. Bold Invention could've been 1 or 4 (both have bold colors), but Restless Nomad had to be 1 because it had more spice tones and jewel tones which read "sultry" and "exotic".
I had the first two correct, the last two flipped. I think my answers are more right. :D
Bright, cheery blues do not add up to experimental, artsy, expressive. The city never sleeps. Neither do its colors. The third one is closer to a modern loft palette.
P.S. This was fun.
I got it right. Woot!
I agree that the description for Bold Invention does not match up well with the colors. It looks more beachy or caribbean than really urban--but I just knew Restless Nomad had to be 1--it was the only one that could possibly be described as "sultry" or "primal". I think 4 could be "experimental, artsy, expressive" in, like, a Keith Haring or George Rodrigue Blue Dog kind of way. Which is to say, I still don't agree with it for 2010, but I think I see where they might be coming from.
Nailed it!!
I failed but it as a fun quiz!
Got it!
(In a sing-songy voice) :
Nailed it!
yay, me too! nailed it.
Funny, my nickname in college was Purely Refined Gentle Invention.
is it embarassing to admit I totally just fist-pumped when I realized I'd had them right?!
Wow. How could I have been so wrong?
hyzen, you might be interested in seeing Ralph Lauren Paint's take on "urban" colors, which he calls Modern Light.

Very similar to palette #3. It informed my choice.
